Master Lock

Today’s Photo: Master Lock

I found this master lock hanging on the side of an old building several years ago.  Unfortunately for the family, I have this habit of slamming on the breaks and stopping to take photos whenever we are driving some where.  Scheduling time to go take photos never works, so I think I will just go back to improvising.  Maybe it just has something to do with the creative side of my brain.  The creative side of my brain really kicked in on this photo; the colors and contrast for this image are fascinating to me.  I don’t think I could have had Sherwin Williams match the paint to the blue of the master lock if I had planned it.

There is something special about the old buildings that I run into in this area.  The combination of the weathered paint, wood, and rusted metal makes for some interesting combinations.  It is too bad a lot of these buildings are being removed to make way for future development.  I am not one to stand in the way of progress, but it sure does decrease the ability to find interesting old building to shoot.  I guess I’ll just have to find some other fun stuff for photos.  Maybe something some modern architecture?  Like Midtown in Atlanta or maybe a trip back to Chattanooga.

Goodbye Christmas Tree

Today’s Photo: Goodbye Christmas Tree

Over the years, I have had lots of fun shooting this Christmas Tree.  However, each year the family puts it up, the less the lights work and the branches are starting to get worn out.  I have a feeling that next year will bring a new tree.

The Sluice

Today’s Photo: The Sluice

There is a small park in Woodstock, Georgia called Olde Rope Mill Park where there are ruins of an old mill.  This was the sluice from the dam to the factory ruins.  You can still see the diversion gates in the wall of the sluice.  I made my way to the other side, which is the middle of the river by way of a small concrete whcih you can see in the distance.

V is for Victory

Several years ago, I tagged along, quite by accident, with a group from Chattanooga Tennessee that was photographing Old Car City USA in White Georgia.  What I did not know at the time, was that many from this group would also make up the group for Scott Kelby’s Worldwide Photo Walk in Chattanooga a few weeks later.  I got many photos that day at the Old Car City and then during the photo walk.

Riverfront Theatre Complex

Today’s Photo: Riverfront Theatre Complex

Many years ago, when I was in high school and college, I thought I might make a life in the theater.  That did not happen, but it had a profound impact on my life.  One of the greatest things I gained from it was my appreciation for the arts.  I have walked past the theater complex for Columbus State University several times, but haven’t attended a show there.  Maybe one day I will have to change that.

Bay Avenue Railroad Bridge

Today’s Photo: Bay Avenue Railroad Bridge

I am a fan of railroads.  I loved them growing up, had the train table and all, and still have a fascination with them.  I may have to get a table for my son when he gets a few years old.  Of course it would just be for him, well maybe.  Enough of that, I found this bridge while exploring the riverfront in Columbus, Georgia.  I thought I would give it a little old time photo look in honor of one of the oldest forms of transportation around.

Police Lights

I took the family for a drive through the Holiday Lights at Veterans Park.  The drive through was pretty nice and the displays were pretty good.  This was one of my favorite.

The Hammer

Not only does Smith Gilbert Gardens have some gorgeous flowers, Bonsai trees, and landscaping, it also has some impressive sculptures.  This one is located near the center of the gardens.

The Ornament

Today’s Photo: The Ornament

I went to the Woodstock Christmas Jubilee Parade of Lights the other evening.  The temperature dropped after dark and we did not stay for the tree lighting.  However, I got a few shots around town before dark and some of the parade.

Lights and a Tree

Today’s Photo: Lights and a Tree

It snowed a little bit on Friday and continued into Saturday.  I could not resist going out and taking a few shots in the snow Friday before it got too dark.  This was with about 3 – 4 inches of snow.  We got another 3 – 4 after I took this photo.  The snow was so good, that we made a 7 foot snowman.  However, the temperature was right at 32 degrees and the snow was very wet and heavy, and the snowman fell down during the night.
