Savannah City Hall

Today’s Photo: Savannah City Hall

I took off one evening after walking around River Street and made my way through several of the parks just beyond Bay Street.  I went through Johnson Square and found this angle to shoot City Hall.  Traffic was not real heavy, but timed just right that it took forever to get this shot without cars on Bull Street.

Cedarcrest Church

Architecture has a great chance to be beautiful any time of the day.  I happen to think dusk is one of the best times to photograph architecture.  The lighting has a tendency to accent textures of the buildings and lights are usually on.  That was how I found Cedarcrest Church just before dusk fully set in.  I snapped a few around the church and ended with this shot.

Charnell Jackson Garage

I found this little building on a recent trip from Calhoun Georgia to Rome Georgia.  I guess I had just put blinders on for all the years that I drove this road, but this is the first time that I had noticed this building.  I did not have time to stop in the morning and made these shots in the afternoon.  I am sure this shop has seen better days, on the other hand, I liked the way the vines were taking over the old tractor.  It makes you wonder if the tractor was put there for show, or just never got fixed when the garage shut down.

Lenny's Sub Shop

When I am out taking photos, I have a tendency to forget to eat.  It’s not that I’m not hungry, it’s that there are too many other important things going on and I don’t have time.  One evening walking around the Market Square and Downtown in Knoxville, we decided to make a quick stop at this little hole in the wall sandwich shop.  I am bad about trying to find these types of shops.  Sometimes they are good and sometimes they are bad.  This one happened to be great.  I recommend it to anyone in the Knoxville area.

Empty Streets

Today’s Photo: Empty Streets

Just before Christmas was the Night of Lights in Jasper Georgia.  It is the annual tree lighting and it is a fairly large event.  However, it was extremely cold this year and people were only around for just a little while.  That made for some empty streets at the end of the event.

Raspberry PI Projects:

The past few weeks I have been working diligently on a project for my Raspberry PI computer.  I have been setting it up as a web server to operate a switch which can be used for anything that you want to turn on and off.  Finally, I have finished and it is operational.  My next projects for it are to make a stepper motor and camera controller for time-lapses.  Maybe I won’t pursue it in such an all encompassing way.

The Good Life

Today’s Photo: The Good Life

This little house sits on a small lake near the edge of Calhoun Georgia.  I was surprised when I saw it the other day.  It is along a road that I had driven hundreds of times before.  It reminds me of a little cabin in the middle of nowhere and many summer nights sitting on the porch watching the rain.

The Haunted Hospital

Today’s Photo: The Haunted Hospital

Among my many adventures in Knoxville, there were several walks along the Tennessee River.  One of those happened to be well after dark and to retrieve the car for me to go pick up my fellow explorers.  Unfortunately, it took me a few minutes more to make it to them than it could have.  I made a stop at Volunteer Landing to get a few shots of the Baptist Hospital that overlooks the river.  The hospital is no longer in use and reminds me of the set from a horror film.  Not that they scare me, but it was good to have several hundred feet of water to get some good reflections.

Entrance to Thompson-Boling Arena

Today’s Photo: Entrance to Thompson-Boling Arena

I stopped for a quick shot while we were passing through the front entrance area to the Thompson-Boling arena on the campus of the University of Tennessee.  I had just taken some shots of fireworks that I believe were the send off for the Vols to go play Alabama last year and we were walking to Neyland Stadium.  Having never been inside the Thompson-Boling arena, I can only imagine what was in the space hovering above my head.  Thankfully, it did not fall on me.

Knoxville Reflections

Today’s Photo: Knoxville Reflections

I was walking along Gay Street one evening when I ran across this building.  I thought the reflections were pretty good in the building.  I tried to get a shot of the other building too, but there were not any good angles.

Barn and a Gate

Today’s Photo: Barn and a Gate

I was driving some back roads and ran across this little barn / falling down building and a gate.  I thought the surroundings were just perfect.  No one had kept up with the yard / landscaping and it fit real well with the dilapidated look of the building.
