Today’s Photo: Along a Country Road

Sunsets have been mediocre wherever I have been for the past couple months.  I was fortunate enough to get these few clouds just at sunset.  However, the rest of the sky was perfectly clear.  I am hoping that since fall is officially here, a little afternoon / evening cloudiness is the norm.  Otherwise, I am going to have to work on the sunrise timeline.

A couple months ago, I was driving around near home and ran across this sunset.  A while back, I took some shots into the sunset in this general area of another sunset.  I not sure which I like better?

For the next few weeks, I am in East Tennessee.  I was watching the clouds the other day and thought it would be a good time to go find someplace to take sunset photos.  I took a jaunt out Tennessee 62 with the intent of making it to Frozen Head State Park.  Unfortunately, the park was closed by the time I got there.  That was because I was busy stopping every quarter mile to take photos.  This was a gate I found just as the sun was setting.

The parking lot I stopped in for the Sunset Island shot was the Harbin Clinic.  I took this just a few minutes before.  It had rained most of the day and the puddles were perfect for reflections.  This one just happened to be in the perfect spot.

The last day of summer went out with a bang here in North Georgia.  For most of the morning, it rained and rained.  In fact, it was raining so much that I spent nearly all day inside.  It had nothing to do with my home improvement projects.  They were my wife’s.  However, we made it out just before sunset and I was treated to some beautiful colors on the way home.  I happened to stop at a nice empty parking lot with a decent angle for some of the sunset.

The Cycle of Life

Several years ago, we had a tornado pass very near where I live.  It was an interesting night to say the least and left quite a path of destruction.  Instead of letting all the fallen trees go to waste, many of the land owners chose to have the timber harvested.  I watched for months as timber companies slowly cleared almost all the trees.  This is what some of the area looks like now.  The undergrowth and some trees are beginning to return.  Unfortunately, it is going to take decades for what was there to return.

Sunset by the Barn

Today’s Photo: Sunset by the Barn

One of our local barns was the right spot for some sunset shots the other day.  I didn’t get much of the barn because this was the best angle, but it still made it off the side.  The sunset looked better than the barn though.

It has been several years since I took a vacation with the family and traveled anywhere.  We decided to go to Panama City Beach this summer.  With the exception of a small hiccup, it went well.  This was the only real good sunset from the week, but the clouds the rest of the week turned out great.  This is the M.B. Miller County Pier that is situated on Front Beach Road in Panama City Beach.

Sometimes you can find a descent photo in some of the most unlikely places.  I was driving through Eufaula Alabama and had stopped to eat.  Of course, I had not been paying attention to the fact that the rain I had been driving through was clearing.  When I came out of the restaurant, my wife pointed out this sunset.  Not knowing the area, I immediately began driving around and noticed this retention pond situated next to a Wal-Mart.  The reflections were not to bad and the small water tower added to it.

Many of the sunrises and sunsets that I see happen while I am traveling on the road.  Sometimes, I am fortunate enough to get a good spot to stop and get a shot.  This summer, there has been so much rain that the sunsets are mostly rained out.  This was not one of those times.
