From the monthly archives: "April 2011"

I have been looking at this building for several years now.  Every time I saw it, I never had my camera with me.  Yeah, I know that is a shock.  And I see this quite frequently.  Finally, I made a special trip just to take these photos.  I will go back again some time and try to take some more.  Maybe this time it won’t take several years.

My mom had a 1970 Chevelle Malibu SS which she purchased new.  It went through both of my older brothers and was eventually sold.  What I would give to have that car back.  When it was sold, I had no desire for it and I don’t think anyone gave it a second thought.  I know I did not at the time.  So, until I am able to find another one which I like, I guess I will just have to keep going to car shows and dreaming.

At the end of last summer, I began taking photos of old cars.  Unfortunately, I decided to try my hand at car photography too late in the season and did not find too many of them until a couple of weeks ago.  Since then, I think there have been a never ending series of shows. I did an unthinkable thing this last weekend.  I left the house without my camera.  So I got about 30 minutes from the house and ran into this car show.  I was inside a store, came out and the parking lot was roped off and cars were just arriving.  You can see the photo, so you know what I had to do.

I promised my daughter that I would take her for ice cream the other day.  While partaking of that creamy indulgence, I looked out the window and saw this gorgeous sunset in the making.  However, as in all things, I had to search for the best angle.  Just before it all went away I was able to get a few shots of the sunset over McCoullum Airfield in Georgia.

Another beautiful sunrise in North Georgia.  I was thinking of the average life span of a person today and became kind of depressed.  lets just use 70 years old as the average life span.  The first 18 years are used learning how to do everything and then school.  So, 18 years preparing for the next 52.  So 52 years left, take away 4 for college (because you have to go to college now for a job) and then 2 more because for those first two years out of college you have no idea what you are doing.  Now we are at 46 years.  Take away 6 from the end, because at 62, most people begin forgetting who they are and then reverting to the first 18 years.  Down to 40 years.  So, 30 years for a career where you have one to two weeks off a year (just enough to frustrate you).  That gets us to 10.  Now think… That makes only 10 summers, falls, winters and springs to attempt to capture memories full time.

What I wouldn’t give to make this a full time endeavor.  Maybe someday.

This is the first time I posted two photos consecutively from one day of shooting.  I am going to try to mix it up most of the time, but I was just so impressed with the sunrise yesterday that I had to put another one up.

I am beginning to think sunrise is my favorite time of the day.  It usually takes several days before I have processed photos, but this one I could not wait that long.  The Salacoa valley is situated just right for this time of year.  The sunrise is in just the right place and today, the clouds were just right too.

This is from the square in downtown Marietta.  I believe this could be the train to nowhere.

Another old gun.  These are amazing.  This one is from the top of Kennesaw Mountain the national battlefield park.  This is a view toward downtown Kennesaw and the approach Grant would have taken.  You can just imagine the view the soldiers would have had just before the battle.

In Oregon, I had the pleasure of hiking a short trail near Mount Hood.  The trail went by Mirror Lake and then to the top of Tom, Dick and Harry mountain.  I started hiking and was afraid I would not get to see much.  The weather was not awful, but visibility was very poor.  However, when I got to the top of Tom, Dick and Harry, it began clearing up.  On the way back down, it cleared up significantly more and I was able to capture this shot of Mount Hood from across Mirror Lake.
