Flower in the Garden

Today’s Photo: Flower in the Garden

I seem to have put my life on hold for the last two weeks and it only looks to be getting busier.  However, I was able to get by the Smith Gilbert Gardens again a couple weekends ago.  This time, the roses were beginning to bloom and some of the other flowers.  I have no idea what this flower was as it had no marker.  It was beautiful though.

Turning Pens

Today’s Photo: Turning Pens

My older brother recently learned the craft of turning pens.  I had seen wooden pens before, but never really paid that much attention to them.  I got a chance to look up close and give them a really good look.  I was impressed enough with his work that I had to get a few good shots of them.  So, I kidnapped the pens and took some proof of life photos for him.

After a Day on the Trail

Today’s Photo: After a Day on the Trail

Several weeks ago, I made a trip to the top of Pine Mountain in the Pine Mountain Recreation area in Cartersville.  After we finished that trip, we made a stop at the Etowah Indian mounds and then coffee and yogurt.  I was sitting and relaxing when I looked down at my glasses on the table.  Couldn’t pass up the shot.

Cattails

Today’s Photo: Cattails

Just north of the little town of Fairmount Georgia is a small swamp area.  I don’t make it past the swamp often and never seem to have time to stop.  Usually it is when there is a nice colorful sunset.  I made time to stop the other day and found these cattails that had made it through the winter.

The Lone Icicle

Today’s Photo: The Lone Icicle

I was out taking photos of icicles when it was really cold this winter.  No, it was not the same time as I shoot The Frozen Waterfall, but it was still real cold.  I was making my way down from some cliffs up the side of a hill when I noticed this one random icicle.  There were no others near it and it did not appear there was really enough water to support this one.

Snowy Details

Today’s Photo: Snowy Details

Having two weeks essentially of snow this winter was fun.  The only problem was not being able to get out and drive around.  However, I did get a chance to spend some time getting some shots around the house.  I had lots of fun getting the detail shots.

The Steel Dome

Today’s Photo: The Steel Dome

Another adventure in light painting.  I was not sure about doing this shot, but was pleased with the way it turned out.  I was afraid the drops of burning steel would reach farther than they did.  It was impressive seeing this just above my head.

Clinging to the Edge

Today’s Photo: Clinging to the Edge

There are very few bridges that do not make good photo subjects.  I guess this has to do with the engineer that makes the bridge.  There is a lot of thought that goes into the engineering other than just the ability to support weight over long distances.  Not only have I been enthralled by the spans themselves, but also the details that have gone into them and then the additional details that were not planned.  This little plant clinging to the side of an support stood out.

Ice and Life

Today’s Photo: Ice and Life

The last several weeks have brought some blisteringly cold weather to a normally mild area of Georgia.  I shot this literally on the side of a mountain.  Luckily for me, it was at the base of a small cliff and I had a little room to stand and set up the tripod.  I was taking some shots at the base of a small waterfall and thought I could climb to the top.  Probably not the smartest thing I have done, but it turned out some good photos.

Banana He(art)

Today’s Photo: Banana He(art)

I was getting myself and the girls ready the morning while my wife was getting one of them a banana for breakfast.  I am all about peeling bananas from the non-stem side.  Watch monkey’s eat.  It is actually easier to peel the banana from that end.  Anyway, my wife does not prescribe to that method of extracting the banana; she peels from the stem.  This morning, she peeled it and it made a perfect heart shape in the peel.  I did not let my daughter eat it, but instead abducted it and took photos.  Of course she was allowed to eat it afterward.
