Today’s Photo:  Mirror Lake and Mount Hood

Backed up against Mirror Lake is a small, relatively, mountain called Tom, Dick and Harry.  I decided to make a short hike out to Mirror Lake and enjoy a view of Mount Hood.  I made much better time to the lake than what I thought I would, so I decided to …Continue Reading Here…

Portland Over the Esplanade

Today’s Photo:  Portland Over the Esplanade

A couple years ago, I got to go to Portland, Oregon.  It was my first trip to the Pacific Northwest.  The hotel I was staying in was right by the water and the Esplanade.  I took a couple of evenings and walked most …Continue Reading Here…

Mirror Lake Loop

The hike to Mirror Lake at the foot of Mount Hood in Oregon is a hike I highly recommend.  If you get there early enough, there is plenty of parking and almost no one on the trail.  While well maintained and very easy to follow, the trail is not for the faint of heart.  It begins as a gentle climb from the roadway and then all the sudden begins switchbacks up …Continue Reading Here…

My Little Friend the Chipmunk

Today’s Photo:  My Little Friend the Chipmunk

I am usually not a snap shot type person.  I try to make sure the composition, exposure and framing are all the way I want.  However, I found this little guy on top of a mountain in Oregon.  I set the tripod up and was taking …Continue Reading Here…

Mount Hood

I grew up in the outdoors and I have found that my love for it has lead me to want to capture great vistas.  However, in the Eastern US, there are not that many great vistas to see.  It was not until in the past few years …Continue Reading Here…

I was fortunate to have some time around sunset one evening while in Portland.  I walked all the way around the Esplanade.  The what you ask?  Yeah, Esplanade.  I had to look it up also.  There are so many excellent angles to capture in this city.  I really like the bridges.  In the southeast, bridges over the water are either tall enough to allow ships through, or are draw bridges that split in the middle and raise on either side.  In Portland, they have a section in the middle that lifts straight up.  I wish I had been able to capture one while it was up, but I was never in the right place at the right time.

In Oregon, I had the pleasure of hiking a short trail near Mount Hood.  The trail went by Mirror Lake and then to the top of Tom, Dick and Harry mountain.  I started hiking and was afraid I would not get to see much.  The weather was not awful, but visibility was very poor.  However, when I got to the top of Tom, Dick and Harry, it began clearing up.  On the way back down, it cleared up significantly more and I was able to capture this shot of Mount Hood from across Mirror Lake.
