The Sunsphere

Today’s Photo: The Sunsphere

This is another shot I took in Knoxville.  This was my second walk around town and was completely taken by surprise when I ran across the waterfalls and fountains here.  I had seen the Sunsphere on my first walk and made it my goal on the second.  I spent a decent amount of time walking through the park this night.  I just wish I had taken some shots of the Knoxville Convention Center.  It was all lit up that night and I made the assumption that it would be that was another night.  It was not.

Tennessee Veterans Cemetery

Unfortunately, I did not get to spend Halloween with the kids.  So, I decided to entertain myself and spend it in a Cemetery.  I have gotten rather good at finding these small veterans cemeteries and have begun to get intrigued by them.  This one, I found on the south end of Knoxville Tennessee sitting around a small, quiet hill amidst bustling streets.  Although there was lots of traffic at the bottom of the hill, there was almost no noise from it.  It was good to spend some quiet time among these Hero’s.

Reddit:

I was checking on some of the visitors of the site yesterday and noticed some traffic from reddit.com.  I had looked at the site a while back and did not explore much further, but took a big interest in it this time.  After a few minutes, I was intrigued by all the different stories and links just thrown out there.  If you are looking for random thoughts on just about any topic, it can be found on reddit.

An Empty Bridge

Today’s Photo: An Empty Bridge

This is a small foot bridge along the Tennessee River in Knoxville.  I took this late one evening after waiting around on the Gay Street bridge for the sunset.  There was so little foot traffic on the greenway beside the river that getting this shot was not that difficult.  I love the peace an quite on a night like this one was.

Regal Riviera

I spent a couple of evenings around the Market Square area of Knoxville.  The first evening, I barely made it out of Market Square proper and not at all along Gay Street.  This shot is of the Regal cinema on Gay Street.  The traffic was so bad that it took forever to get this shot with out cars driving along the street.  I guess I could have waited until about 2 in the morning, but I’m not sure it would have been any slower then.

The Water Stop

Today’s Photo: The Water Stop

A little water stop along the river railroad in Knoxville, Tennessee.  This shot was from my first day of exploring and the beginning to many more.  I did not go any further north from this point.  That is stored for another day of exploring.  You expect to see Thomas and his friends come around the bend.

The Sunsphere

Designed and built for the 1982 World’s Fair, the Sunsphere remains an iconic landmark in Knoxville, Tennessee.  So, of course, I had to make a trip to visit.  The World’s Fair park was impressive, but not so much the Sunsphere.  It was neat to get to go to the observation deck and watch the city.  I wanted to get some skyline shots from the observation deck at night, but the reflections from the lights inside the deck prevented that.  So, I settled for a few shots from outside.

Tennessee Valley Authority

On the North end of Market Square in Knoxville, Tennessee, sits one location of the Tennessee Valley Authority.  In front of that building is a waterfall and this large silver statue that is really reflective.  I tried several different angles and really like this one with the water fountain reflecting in the statue.

Sapphire

I ran into this restaurant along Gay Street in Knoxville.  I could not pass up the contrasting blues and orange.  I stood here for a while to get a shot without people in it.  This was one busy sidewalk and restaurant.

UT Football Fireworks

Today’s Photo: UT Football Fireworks

The week before the University of Tennessee played Alabama, I was taking a walk around Knoxville.  I was taking photos around Neyland Stadium when I began hearing fireworks.  I made it to this spot just in time to get the last few minutes of the fireworks.  With the UT Football bus parked by the firework locations, I am assuming that it was a send off for the players, but I was never able to find out definitively. Talk about a fun run through the streets of Knoxville.  I’m just glad I did not get squished.

Poolside

A great feature of subdivisions and apartment complexes are the amenities.  Most have pools as the main amenity and the apartment complex in Knoxville that I stayed at was no different.  I was able to get a few shots of the pool area with no swimmers.  This is looking back toward the club house / office.
