Today’s Photo: Close to the Line

I did a little exploring a couple weeks ago and ran across this set of railroad tracks.  As I was driving past them, I noticed that the turned gently and kinda faded into the distance.  I actually backed up from where I was initially taking photos and then got low to get this shot.  I thought the texture of the rocks and cross ties really stood out from this angle.

How long does your iPhone last?  I got mine in March 2010.  It is now July 2011 and it seems like it will not keep a charge.  Sometimes the meter says 95% and then all the sudden, it crashes.  Sometimes it will restart and others it will not.  I am on it constantly and seem to run the battery out pretty quickly.  Does anyone have any suggestions for an extended battery?

Today’s Photo:  Another Sunrise

Any one who has read this blog for any amount of time knows of my fascination with gates.  I leave for work around sunrise each day.  Unfortunately, or fortunately, I pass this gate every morning.  This just happened to be one of the better mornings.

Another Sunrise

I told you I would give at least a teaser photo.  This one was shot from the top of Blood Mountain on the Appalachin trail in North Georgia.  For this shot, I woke at 0230.  I can see how it would take a very short time for a dedicated sunrise photographer to go absolutely insane.  However, the experience was well worth it.  Now I am going to begin sharing it with you.

This was from the sunken monument garden on the Mall in Washington D.C.  If you don’t know it is there, it is very easy to miss.  In fact, I would never have found it with out a guide.  Even when you get into the garden, you must explore every twist and turn or you will miss some very interesting pieces.

This one is near the entrance to the garden and it was just a very unique view.  I really enjoyed the alignment of the two pieces.

This is one of the first planes you see when entering the Udvar-Hazy space center.  You begin to get a feel for the size of the place, but until you stand at one end and look to the other, you really can’t understand.  This plane is about 30 feet in the air.  I took a few photos in this building.  Somewhere in the neighborhood of several hundred and still feel like I did not get enough.

P.S. If anyone is paying attention, this one is a few hours early.

This is from the square in downtown Marietta.  I believe this could be the train to nowhere.

I believe that the best way to learn is to pick a good role model and emulate them.  I don’t mean copy their work, but learn their style.  Give yourself an assignment; like shoot a solo tree on a hill at sunset.  Then attempt to apply the style of your newly acquired role model to the assignment.  But, after completing the assignment, post it some where so it can be critiqued.  If you only hang it in your home, no one else can enjoy it.

The Hallway

I was in Indianapolis several years ago and took this photo.  It was near the capitol, but I don’t know the name of the building.  I believe it was to the west of the capital building near the canal.  If you know, just say it.
