Today’s Photo: Ayers Hall, University of Tennessee

Several days ago, I had the pleasure of making a trip to Neyland Stadium at the University of Tennessee.  Afterward, of course, I had to go exploring.  I had the idea of taking some photos from the observation deck of the Sunsphere.  Good idea until I made it to the observation deck.  It was night and the inside glass is tinted gold and very reflective.  However, on the walk, I went by Ayers Hall that sits atop “The Hill” at the University of Tennessee.

I enjoy getting to go to parks.  There is either some beautiful landscape that has been protected and set aside for the general public, or there is some historical significance to the location.  At Eden Gardens State Park, those both merge for a beautiful historic house and landscape.  The main attraction is the Wesley House.  However, the landscaping is beautiful too.

Berry College is known for the largest campus in the world.  Somewhere in the neighborhood of 25,000 acres and the majority of it is undeveloped.  I was fortunate enough to spend a little time there during my college years and spent many days riding my mountain bike around Lavender Mountain.  There are so many beautiful places there that it is hard to list them all and it would take weeks to post them photo by photo.  However, one of my favorite is the Old Mill.  Located at the base of Lavender Mountain, the Old Mill still rests on a small pond.  Although it is closed up and not running, it makes for a beautiful photo location.

Antique

Today’s Photo: Antique

When I was growing up, the common definition for antique was that something was over 20 years old.  Now that I have passed that mark by a good margin, I believe my definition of antique is changing.  I think of antique as something that was old when I was 20.  It seems to keep me from getting too old.  That lasts right until I speak with someone about an event or person that was significant in my youth and they have no clue as to whom I am talking about.  Hopefully, I have not made too many people feel too old today.

Peter Pan at the Grand

Downtown Cartersville hold an old theater called the Grand.  A couple weekends ago, we were walking around and noticed that they were showing Peter Pan.  I briefly thought about stopping and watching the show, but then I noticed that it was intermission and did not think that would be a good time to start watching.  Instead, I stopped for a shot of the theater goers lingering outside.

Papermill Ruins

It is odd how ruins of a building can tell so much about what it used to be, but still leave out so much.  These ruins are just north of Atlanta and used to house a papermill.  There is not much left other than a few outer walls from the building and nothing of the inside rooms.  After having been inside manufacturing plants, it’s hard to believe that this would have been the equivalent many years ago.

Reflections of Kennesaw

I grew up in a small town just north of Atlanta Georgia.  No, it was not Kennesaw, but I spent enough time there that it could have been.  I always remembered Kennesaw for the Great Locomotive Chase and the movie Six Pack.  I took the kids to the park several weeks ago that is downtown.  I had to take them on a trek to city hall and show them some of the sights.  I don’t think they believed any of the stories I told them.  I can’t imagine why.

I like to explore old towns.  I would classify downtown Blue Ridge Georgia definitely as an old town.  It is so much fun to explore the old architecture.  Sometimes you even come across something that tells a little about the history of a building.  There wasn’t anything telling about the history of this building, but the facade tells a little about it.  I’m sure many people have visited this building.  If the walls could talk, I’m sure they would have tons of stories to tell.

Christmas Lights on the Pavilion

Fairmount Georgia is not a large town by any stretch.  However, it still sports a small town square with a park.  Every December, it is decorated with Christmas lights.  They are not extravagant, but that is what drew me to them.  They are simple, but still manage to convey the beauty of Christmas.  This is the pavilion that sits in the middle of the park.

I love driving through the countryside in the south.  Once you get off the beaten path, the history of the area is plain to see.  I found this barn a couple months ago.  It is obviously old.  If I had the time to sit and listen to the stories it could tell, but I don’t have several years.  So, I just settled for capturing a photo of it and imagining the stories.
