Miniature Braves

Today’s Photo:  Miniature Braves

For Fathers Day my brothers and sisters decided to surprise our day by showing up at the Braves game that he was going to on Fathers Day.  Of course I decided to take this opportunity to snap a few photos.  Our seats were at the top of the “field” level seating which put us underneath the overhang and out of the sun.  Which ever family member made that decision should be credited with saving all our rears.  It was sweltering and extremely sunny.  I did not take too many shots and the game was over before I knew it.  I was able to get this one.  I was not pleased with it until I found a good way to make the tilt shift miniatures.  I like how they look like little toys.

A Fountain with Roots

Today’s Photo:  A Fountain with Roots

I was taking photos in the Gleaming Grove at the Atlanta Botanical Garden Light exhibit when the group of friends I was with abandoned me.  Now, when I get in the photography mode, I can’t say that I blamed them.  It was cold, starting to rain and they needed a break.  I finished in the Gleaming Grove and went to follow them into the Metro Fresh restaurant when I ran across this fountain.  I started by taking photos from the other side, but found this break in the water that showed the base of the fountain.  It looked like something growing from the rocks.

Paper Mill Falls

The ruins at Sope Creek are pretty neat.  When I initially made it to Sope Creek, I was about 300 yards down stream from Paper Mill Road.  From this point, I thought the only ruins were on the other side of the creek and downstream.  That would have not been a problem, but it had been raining for several days and had just cleared up.  The creek was several feet above its normal level and there was no way I was going to cross.  I decided to try the bridge at Paper Mill Road.  When I got to the bridge, I found another part of the ruins that I did not know about.  Since I was running short of time, I just shot these and plan to go back for the ones on the other side of the creek.  This was a small creek that was beside the ruins and there was a small rock wall making a waterfall.

Orchestral Orbs

Today’s Photo:  Orchestral Orbs

One section of the Garden Lights at the Atlanta Botanical Gardens were the Orchestral Orbs.  They were globes set up all around the Great Lawn and choreographed to Christmas music to change colors.  I tried several times to get some good shots of all the orbs, but the exposure was too long to get the background lit also.  When you mix color changing objects in a photo, you get the sum of their colors…white.  I shortened the exposure time significantly to get this one and retain the colors.

The Dragonfly

Today’s Photo:  The Dragonfly

I try my best not to post too many photos from the same event too close together, but I find I am having trouble doing that with my photos from the Garden Lights exhibit at the Atlanta Botanical Gardens.  This shot was from the Brilliant Bugs (Edible Garden) portion of the gardens.  We did not want to wait in line to go through the conservatory, so we entered the Brilliant bugs exhibit from what appeared to be intended as the exit.  One of the first “Bugs” we ran across was this Dragonfly.  I stopped to take a few shots, but was not very happy with them.  However, on the way back through here, I got this on with the swirling water underneath.

Admiring the Tree

Today’s Photo: Admiring the Tree

This was one of my favorite shots from the Garden Lights exhibit.  When we first went by this, the tree was fabulous, but it was so crowded.  We finished walking around and I wanted to get a good shot of this.  The only problem was that the rain had picked up and we almost went back to the car.  I am extremely glad that I decided to go back.  The rain and the fact it was only about 20 minutes from closing made for a beautiful scene.  As we entered the Twinkling Terrace and looked down the walkway to the Orchestral Orbs, I was greeted by this sight.  The couple waited forever, it was like they were waiting for me to get the perfect photo.

 Project 52:

One of the projects that I have wanted to do for a while has been a project 365.  I have come to the realization that it is not a practical goal, so I have decided to start a project 52 instead.  One photo a week for 52 weeks.  In order to make it different that my daily photo blog, I have set themes for each weekly photo.  Drop by the project 52 site and let me know what you think.  Also, anything worth doing is worth sharing, so leave a comment here or on the project 52 site if you would like to share this adventure and your weekly photos to the world.

From the Water it Comes

Today’s Photo:  From the Water it Comes

For the beginning of 2013, I bring you the last adventure from 2012.  I spent the evening with my family and friends at the Atlanta Botanical Garden’s Garden Lights display.  When I was planning it, I did not know how much fun it was going to be, nor how beautiful the garden would be decorated in Christmas lights.  This shot is of the fountain in the middle of the Levy Parterre.
