Barfield General Store

You can find some of the most interesting things if you get off the beaten path.  I found this driving Highway 9 in Alabama.  Obviously, it has been around a long time.  Since 1893 according to the sign.  You can only imagine the history for which this building has been present.

Upper Desoto Falls

This was a short, not too hard hike.  I was able to make it to Upper Desoto Falls and Lower Desoto Falls.  This was after running by Helton Creek Falls.

Pier Park Fireworks

I try hard to find new places to go for July 4th.  Last summer, I found myself in Florida at the Pier in front of Pier Park in Panama City Beach.  I thought it was a pretty cool experience.  There was a huge crowd, but it did not look that big since everyone was spread out on the beach.

Indian Creek Falls

I took the kids on a short day hike to the Great Smoky Mountains National Park.  We chose to do a short out and back that covered Indian Creek Falls, Tom Branch Falls, and Juney Whank Falls.  One of the easiest hikes with the greatest rewards that I have found.  Not only do you get 3 waterfalls in 2ish miles, they are very beautiful.  This is a shot I got of Indian Creek Falls.  Oh, and the water was really cold.

Roman Fountain

I had a couple hours to burn in downtown Rome Georgia.  I ran across this fountain in the side of one of the buildings.  The lights were just right to get a good view of the relief carved into the wall behind the fountain.

Governor Stone

Today’s Photo: Governor Stone

I spent a little bit of time walking around the St. Andrews Marina in Florida and was fascinated by the Governor Stone.  It is hard to believe something built in 1877 is still operational and sea worthy today.

The Infantryman

Today’s Photo: The Infantryman

I spent a couple hours walking through the National Infantry Museum at Fort Benning.  It is a sobering experience walking through the hall of the museum and seeing the history of infantry in the United States.  This shot is of the Infantryman statue that sits under the rotunda at the entrance to the museum.

Chattanooga Overwatch

I took a quick trip to Ruby Falls a few months ago and could not help stopping by Point Park that overlooks Downtown Chattanooga.  I was very surprised by the lack of visitors.  We just about had the entire park to ourselves.

Wormsloe

Today’s Photo: Wormsloe

A while back I was able to stop for a bit, at the Wormsloe Plantation, after a trip to Savannah.  The entrance drive is lined the whole way with live oaks that make a beautiful tunnel to travel through.
