Today’s Photo: The Stone Carvers Hammer
Like “leaf lookers”, I used to be one of the people who avoided craft shows and festivals at all costs. I think it was due to my time living in the small North Georgia town of Ellijay and enjoying the gridlock and frustration for two weekends in October every year for the Apple Festival. I would make it a point to disappear those weekends. However, I have been getting lax in my dislike of these shows and actually go to a few of them each year. Usually even the dreaded Apple Festival. I made it to the Marble Festival in Jasper Georgia a couple of weeks ago. Although no where near as large as the Apple Festival, it was still a nice show and a little more manageable time wise. We were walking down one of the aisles of tents when I ran across a guy carving a large block of marble. It was fascinating to see him switch from powered tools to small pieces of rock and chisels and watch the marble slowly melt away and the form of a knight kneeling and kissing the hand of a lady begin to appear. Under the table, waiting for the right time, was his hammer. Just the thing for those delicate touches.
