Looking at this Stars

Today’s Photo: Looking at this Stars

The Tellus Museum has to be one of the most customer oriented museums around.  It seems like at least once a month, there are special events being held for the museum goers.  Most of those events take place on Friday evenings and include opening the observatory to viewing the stars.  Not only do you get to see through the fabulous telescope in the observatory, there are usually smaller telescopes set up around the outside of the building.  I must say, it is well worth the wait in line to get a view of space from here.

An Old Barn

Today’s Photo: An Old Barn

A benefit of living in North Georgia is the plethora of old barns.  Within a mile, you can find everything from a falling down wreck to something much newer and standing strong.  Mostly, it is not the newer ones that give character to the landscape, it is the older ones that have many years of weathering to tell about.  I found this one on one of my drive through the mountains.  If only its walls could talk.

Fluid Change

I was hiking back in the fall when I ran across this leaf gently rocking back and forth in the water of a small stream.   Most of the time, I try not to be a deeply introspective person, but I had to stop (as long as the kids would allow) and look at this.  Sure as the water flowing through the creek, this leaf will pass by also.  However, next fall another one will take its place.  It will be different, the same and yet still a leaf.  No matter how things change, under the surface they remain the same.

With all the rain over that last few weeks, the creeks and streams around here have been flowing very well.  All the water has made what is normally nothing special into tiny waterfalls all around.  I found this one close to home.  In fact, I was out taking photos of the fog when I ran across it.

Painted Sunset

Today’s Photo: Painted Sunset

It was about sunset on the way home last night and I had been keeping an eye on the sky to see if it may be worth my time to track down a good sunset photo.  I decided that it was too overcast and would not make the effort.  About 30 minutes later, I was told that the sunset was turning out to be pretty good.  I stepped out of the house and was shocked at how much the sky had cleared in that short amount of time.  I ran and got the camera for a few shots.  This was the last shot as the sunset was just fading.

Internet trouble:

Have you ever had a week where nothing went as planned?  Well, on top of the WordPress problems, my internet went out.  Now I am back up (hopefully), and things should be running fine.  I guess that is the price to pay living in the middle of no where.

So close, yet so far away!

I am not one to deny my children the small pleasures in life.  However, this was one of those times.  Most people would probably look at this and assume that I did not let her have ice cream because it was freezing cold outside.  That is not the case here I can assure you.  In fact, the best time of the year to eat ice cream is the winter and drink coffee is the summer.  No, I denied the children the ice cream because I had already gotten a box of fudge.

A Fountain with Roots

I was taking photos in the Gleaming Grove at the Atlanta Botanical Garden Light exhibit when the group of friends I was with abandoned me.  Now, when I get in the photography mode, I can’t say that I blamed them.  It was cold, starting to rain and they needed a break.  I finished in the Gleaming Grove and went to follow them into the Metro Fresh restaurant when I ran across this fountain.  I started by taking photos from the other side, but found this break in the water that showed the base of the fountain.  It looked like something growing from the rocks.

The Deer Fountain

This fountain is located in the park in downtown Calhoun Georgia.  I thought is was neat how they had placed the deer standing along the side.  I was pleased with how the water turned into a slight fog rolling down the sides of the fountain.  There had been just a small amount of water on the ground when I began going through the park.  A few minutes after this, the bottom fell out and it started pouring.

Paper Mill Falls

The ruins at Sope Creek are pretty neat.  When I initially made it to Sope Creek, I was about 300 yards down stream from Paper Mill Road.  From this point, I thought the only ruins were on the other side of the creek and downstream.  That would have not been a problem, but it had been raining for several days and had just cleared up.  The creek was several feet above its normal level and there was no way I was going to cross.  I decided to try the bridge at Paper Mill Road.  When I got to the bridge, I found another part of the ruins that I did not know about.  Since I was running short of time, I just shot these and plan to go back for the ones on the other side of the creek.  This was a small creek that was beside the ruins and there was a small rock wall making a waterfall.

WordPress problems

I have a fairly reliable system for checking the site to make sure it is updating properly.  However, over the last few days I failed to check and make sure the posts were visible to the public.  So, if you checked over the last few days, make sure to scroll down as there are several new posts.

Several weeks ago I went to Blue Ridge Georgia.  I was on a trip to look at some of the stores downtown.  Of course while I was there, I took the time to get a few shots around town.  I got this one of the train that runs the Blue Ridge Scenic Railway.  It was parked waiting for passengers for the winter.  Maybe I will remember to make it for a ride once it gets warm this year.
