Rock Formations

Today’s Photo: Rock Formations

It is intriguing to go some place and run across things that can not occur naturally in nature.  When I went to Middle Creek Falls, that is precisely what I found.  Not only did I run across this stack of rocks, I ran across another at the top of the falls.  I am assuming that there had not been any significant rainfall recently.  I wonder if it ever gets enough rain to wash these away.  It reminds me of another rock mound that I went by on the way to the top of Tom, Dick and Harry Mountain.

15 minutes is all the difference in great colors during sunrise and sunset.  However, if you miss that magical time, all is not lost.  I missed some amazing pinks and purples by about 15 minutes and almost did not stop for this shot.  The low angle of the sun really made the clouds stand out.  I just wish it had been about a week and a half earlier so I could have gotten the fall leaf colors.

Treaty of the Holston Park

Today’s Photo: Treaty of the Holston Park

One of the first places I visited in Knoxville was the Treaty of the Holston Park.  Now, it is not big and I only visited there first because it was along the path I planned to take.  However, I did find this statue of the Signing of the Treaty of the Holston.  I thought it was neat to find this graphical depiction of the early days of Tennessee.

Today’s Photo: Meadows Branch Cascade

This was a shot that I almost did not stop for.  I saw the small cascade coming into Laurel Creek as we were driving.  It was not until I got to the Tunnel in the Smokies, did I decide to go back for this shot.  It is not a long walk back toward Townsend along the road and well worth it.  I had to rein myself in during our trip.  There are so many small waterfalls and cascades like this along nearly every road in the Great Smoky Mountains.

Competing V's

Today’s Photo: Competing V’s

I had just gotten out of the car at Eden Gardens State Park and found these trees.  In the background was the fountain.  I worked my way around until I could find a way to get both the fountain and trees.  If only I could have found a third “V” to include.

Today’s Photo: Ruth’s Chris – Knoxville, Tennessee

On one of my recent photo trips through downtown Knoxville, I ran across this Ruth’s Chris Steakhouse.  It is situated along the Knoxville and Holsten River Railroad tracks.  I wanted to get a few other compositions of the restaurant, but did not want to go walking along the tracks.  It had a no trespassing sign.

I was walking around one of the marinas in Panama City Beach, Florida when I found this boat docked.  I thought it was neat how it was the only boat along this pier that was docked parallel to the pier.  I am glad I got this shot when I did, there was a massive afternoon thunderstorm that I just made it in before.

Ayers Hall, University of Tennessee

Today’s Photo: Ayers Hall, University of Tennessee

Several days ago, I had the pleasure of making a trip to Neyland Stadium at the University of Tennessee.  Afterward, of course, I had to go exploring.  I had the idea of taking some photos from the observation deck of the Sunsphere.  Good idea until I made it to the observation deck.  It was night and the inside glass is tinted gold and very reflective.  However, on the walk, I went by Ayers Hall that sits atop “The Hill” at the University of Tennessee.
