Tennessee Valley Authority

Today’s Photo: Tennessee Valley Authority

On the North end of Market Square in Knoxville, Tennessee, sits one location of the Tennessee Valley Authority.  In front of that building is a waterfall and this large silver statue that is really reflective.  I tried several different angles and really like this one with the water fountain reflecting in the statue.

Emory Gap Falls

When you don’t get to go exploring in a state park until just before it closes, time is everything.  Frozen Head State Park in Tennessee closes at sunset.  All the warnings are to make sure you are off the trails an hour before sunset so that you do not get locked in.  The hike from the parking area to Emory Gap Falls is about 1.5 miles, so that makes about a 3 mile round trip.  I thought I had plenty of time as I was hiking to the falls, but realized I was quickly loosing time.  When I finished shooting this, I had about 20 minutes to make the return trip.  Luckily I made it just in time.

The Bell and Lights

Well, it is almost Christmas time again.  That means lights.  Lots of lights.  I still have not finalized where I’m gonna go exploring this year, but Stone Mountain and Rome have been on my mind.  This is a shot from Calhoun last year.  I thought this bell was pretty neat and fit well with the tree in the background.

Little Pilgrims

Thanksgiving every year is family reunion time for our family.  It is a time of feasting, fun and fellowship.  Along with the feasting happens to be dessert.  I believe the reason dessert is last is because you are supposed to save the best for last.  I missed some of the desserts because I had to make a getaway with these five cupcakes.  They had “Photograph me!!!” written all over them.  So, I ran like a mad photographer and set up the lights for a little fun food photo shoot.  It was not until I began taking photos that I realized I had gotten four green and one orange.  So, they became the little pilgrim family and their neighbor…or black sheep.

The Passage

Seven tribes from one nation began a long journey from here that became known as the trail of tears.  In 2005, members of the Cherokee Tribe created this waterfall in remembrance of that journey.  It begins with seven fountains, seen here, that flow into a narrow channel and then down a series of steps, eventually ending in a pool.  This is just one of the Ghosts of the Trails of Tears shots that I took.

The Tail End

I am a firm believer in public service and spending a portion of your time in community service.  In an effort to instill that value in my children, my wife an I thought it would be good for them to volunteer some of their time at one of the local horse rescues.  They love horses, have been asking for one and will not stop.  So, on an afternoon drive, I decided to swing by and show them where the farm was located.  I could not pass this shot up.  It had both girls laughing.

Lily Pads on the Pond

Today’s Photo: Lily Pads on the Pond

This little pond is located at the end of S. Thomas Drive where it intersects Front Beach Road.  It is a rather busy area, but this little pond seems to be neglected.  I took a few minutes to walk out to the little building.  I would not recommend that, it was not very stable.  I got a few shots of Pompanos, the restaurant sitting along the edge of the pond.

Sapphire

I ran into this restaurant along Gay Street in Knoxville.  I could not pass up the contrasting blues and orange.  I stood here for a while to get a shot without people in it.  This was one busy sidewalk and restaurant.
