Canopy Walk Lights

Today’s Photo: Canopy Walk Lights

One of the paths at the Atlanta Botanical Gardens is a walkway that goes through the canopy of the trees.  For the Garden Lights exhibit, they had wrapped many of the trees in Christmas lights.  My wife and kids had gone ahead and I was trying to catch up to them.  Unfortunately for them, it took me quite a while.  There were a few good compositions up here.

Balancing Rock Sunset

In all the travels I have made to Blood Mountain, I have always taken the Byron Reece trail to the Appalachian Trail and then to the top of Blood Mountain.  I was surprised this last time when my brother asked if I have ever seen this balancing rock.  I had not and he pointed me the opposite direction (North) on the Appalachian Trail from Blood Mountain when we reached the trail.  Not more than a couple hundred yards down the trail is a massive boulder balanced on top of another.  There is very little touching between the two.  On our way back down from the summit of Blood Mountain, we stopped by the balancing rock just as the sun was setting behind the shoulder of Blood Mountain.

Snowy Details

Having two weeks essentially of snow this winter was fun.  The only problem was not being able to get out and drive around.  However, I did get a chance to spend some time getting some shots around the house.  I had lots of fun getting the detail shots.

The Steel Dome

Another adventure in light painting.  I was not sure about doing this shot, but was pleased with the way it turned out.  I was afraid the drops of burning steel would reach farther than they did.  It was impressive seeing this just above my head.

Busy Knoxville

I was working my way around Neyland Stadium one evening and made my way to the top of one of the parking garages.  The stadium was completely lit, but there was not a football game.  I never found out why, but I did get this shot of Neyland Drive along the river.

Waiting for an Alligator

After swimming at the beach at St. Andrews State Park, we decided to take a walk around some of the trails.  I thought this was going to be a nice little walk through a small swampy area, but it just ended up being about 100 yards long.  So, my daughter and I decided to take some photos.  The water was shallow and relatively clear.  I was hoping to see an alligator or two, but that never happened.

Field of Flowers

Today’s Photo: Field of Flowers

With all the snow we have had lately, today and yesterday were quite a change.  70 degree weather just a week after several inches of snow and ice.  Only in Georgia can you find that.  In honor of the warm days, I went back through some older stuff and found this field of yellow flowers.

Snowday Portraits

Today’s Photo: Snowday Portraits

We have had two snow storms that have shut everything down for about a week each over the past month.  Fortunately, I have been able to spend a little time with my children out in the snow.  This was a quick shot I got just before we went inside one day.

Friendly Horses

I was on the way home during one of our recent snowstorms when I ran across these horses.  When I got out of the car, I was just trying to get one.  However, when I got near, it ran over next to the other one and stood there.  It was like it was posing just for me.  The barn and snow made it just right.

Server Update:

This weekend, I went through a server update.  I can say, it is finally finished.  I would say that it was hard work, but, since I have a shared hosting plan with a friend, he took care of it.  We now have new hamsters under the hood.  Thanks for your patients.

Wild Flowers

I was telling the story of meeting a bear on Goforth Creek to my brother.  I was describing the area and he mentioned that he thought that was where a woman and small child had been attacked a year or two ago.  Good thing that bear just walked on by.  Can’t imagine what it would have been like if it had gotten between me and the children.  Anyways, this was a flower that we found on the edge of a field about a mile back into the woods along the creek.  I have no idea what the flower is, but it was like little trumpets.
