Website Server Troubles

So, I had a little trouble with the site server and now I’m back up and running.  I decided to do a little redesign while I was at it.  The next few weeks will see some other changes with the design.  Let me know what you think of it.

Fireworks Over Lake Allatoona

Today’s Photo: Fireworks Over Lake Allatoona

It has been several years since my schedule has allowed me to make it to the Allatoona Yacht Club fireworks display.  I made it to the shore of the lake a little later than I wanted and had to settle for a view further from the parking lot.  However, I was still able to get a good angle to watch the show and get a few good shots as well.

Tybee Island Lighthouse

Today’s Photo: Tybee Island Lighthouse

Established as a guiding light for the budding colony of Georgia in 1732, the lighthouse on Tybee Island is one of the oldest in the United States.  It now stands 154 feet tall at the mouth of the Savannah River and still lights the way for mariners.

I took this shot after taking the 178 stairs to the top and back down.  Fortunately, we made it before they shut the lighthouse down that day due to an approaching storm.

The Old Cells

150 years ago, after the end of the Civil War, Fort Pulaski was turned into a prison for Confederate prisoners.  The spaces in the walls for the cannon were closed off and used for housing the prisoners.  This is a shot looking into the prison cells.

Jasper Fireworks

This year was the first time I went to see the fireworks in Jasper Georgia.  I can say that for a small town, I was impressed.  My guess is that we just had the perfect spot to watch from and good friends to share it with, but the fireworks were good too.

The Easy Footpath

Today’s Photo: The Easy Footpath

Several weeks ago, I hiked the Appalachian Trail from Forest Service Road 42 to Springer Mountain and then the Appalachian Approach Trail to Amicalola Falls State Park.  What is billed at about 8.5 miles was actually right at 10 miles to the lodge at the park.  Going from north to south was not nearly as bad as I can imagine going to opposite direction would have been.

The Window to Wonderland

As winters go, this last one was pretty good for North Georgia.  That’s how I see it at least.  We had two really good winter storms and I got to spend sometime tromping around in the snow.  As hot and muggy as it is right now, I wish this was my view.  I can honestly saw that I don’t dream much of warmer weather when it’s cold.
