Blue Fountain

Today’s Photo: Blue Fountain

Another shot from the Garden Lights exhibit at the Atlanta Botanical Gardens.  We were fortunate that, until just before this shot, there was almost no rain.  The rain made the last 30 minutes or so a little uncomfortable, but it was not unbearable.  It is interesting to see peoples reactions when they run across someone taking a photo.  Their first reaction is to stop and remain out of the line of the camera so that they will not be in the photo.  It took a little encouragement to get them to walk in front of the camera.  During this shot, there were at least 5 – 10 people that walked across.  I guess they thought I did not have the camera on.

I am sitting here listening to it rain for the millionth time this year.  We are only a few months into the year.  All I can say is that I hope some of this is spread through out the summer also.  This shot is not of the rain, obviously.  This was from the fireworks show at Lake Arrowhead just north of Atlanta.  This one was a couple days before Pops on the River and a good chance to get some practice.  I had set up in what seemed like the most likely place, but learned that it was not as the show began.  I had to grab the camera and run to another location.  If I get to shoot this one again, I will chose my placement with a little better foresight.

Listening to the Stars

Another view of the satellite dishes in front of the Tellus Museum.  Looking at these reminds me of the movie “Contact”.  I could see them piping radio waves from far distant galaxies into banks of computers just waiting for some recognizable pattern.  One can still dream like a child, right?  It’s good that there is a museum like Tellus to help keep those dreams alive.

Green and Blue

There are several areas of the Atlanta Botanical Gardens that I thought were pretty neat.  Well, all of it was neat.  I took this shot from the Twinkling Terrace, but you can see one of the great trees and the Orchestral Orbs in the background.  The rain was just right and left just enough water on the ground for the reflections.

A Fountain with Roots

Today’s Photo:  A Fountain with Roots

I was taking photos in the Gleaming Grove at the Atlanta Botanical Garden Light exhibit when the group of friends I was with abandoned me.  Now, when I get in the photography mode, I can’t say that I blamed them.  It was cold, starting to rain and they needed a break.  I finished in the Gleaming Grove and went to follow them into the Metro Fresh restaurant when I ran across this fountain.  I started by taking photos from the other side, but found this break in the water that showed the base of the fountain.  It looked like something growing from the rocks.

Calhoun Christmas Tree

Today’s Photo:  Calhoun Christmas Tree

Downtown Calhoun Georgia is not a very big place.  In fact, if you blink, you may miss it.  I have driven through several times, and each time, I notice something I did not the time before.  This shot was of the Christmas Tree in the small park on the north side of town.  The park was not very large, maybe an acre and a half, but packed full of good compositions with the Christmas lights.  It had been raining most of the day and there were several puddles around.  Fortunately, this one was in just the right spot.

Light Along the Path

I have admired this walkway for a long time and finally got the chance to stop.  There is something peaceful to me about this small section.  Is is how well it is lit?  Maybe the mixture of warm and cold lights?  Possibly the closeness of the trees with their branches leaning over the path?  Regardless of the reason, I was drawn to this short section of walkway on the grounds of Reinhardt University in North Georgia.  The night I took this, I found that, deeper into the campus, there are many other paths that were equally as interesting.

Admiring the Tree

Today’s Photo: Admiring the Tree

This was one of my favorite shots from the Garden Lights exhibit.  When we first went by this, the tree was fabulous, but it was so crowded.  We finished walking around and I wanted to get a good shot of this.  The only problem was that the rain had picked up and we almost went back to the car.  I am extremely glad that I decided to go back.  The rain and the fact it was only about 20 minutes from closing made for a beautiful scene.  As we entered the Twinkling Terrace and looked down the walkway to the Orchestral Orbs, I was greeted by this sight.  The couple waited forever, it was like they were waiting for me to get the perfect photo.

 Project 52:

One of the projects that I have wanted to do for a while has been a project 365.  I have come to the realization that it is not a practical goal, so I have decided to start a project 52 instead.  One photo a week for 52 weeks.  In order to make it different that my daily photo blog, I have set themes for each weekly photo.  Drop by the project 52 site and let me know what you think.  Also, anything worth doing is worth sharing, so leave a comment here or on the project 52 site if you would like to share this adventure and your weekly photos to the world.

From the Water it Comes

Today’s Photo:  From the Water it Comes

For the beginning of 2013, I bring you the last adventure from 2012.  I spent the evening with my family and friends at the Atlanta Botanical Garden’s Garden Lights display.  When I was planning it, I did not know how much fun it was going to be, nor how beautiful the garden would be decorated in Christmas lights.  This shot is of the fountain in the middle of the Levy Parterre.

Christmas in Fairmount

Today’s Photo:  Christmas in Fairmount

I enjoy looking at the way people decorate for Christmas in so many different ways.  Some are simple, some complex and some you can see from the International Space Station.  Fairmount’s lights were simple, yet beautiful.  I maybe biased though, because I am a clear white light type person.  I really liked the way they got the lights back into the branches to make it look like it was glowing from inside.
