The Dry Riverbed

Today’s Photo: The Dry Riverbed

The start of the trail to Debord and Emory Gap Falls starts at the end of the main road into Frozen Head State Park.  From there, the trail parallels the stream bed most of the way to the base of both sets of falls.  Unfortunately, I decided to visit the falls during a very dry spell and most of the water was flowing under the stream bed instead of in it.  I was able to get a few shots of some of the pools of water along the stream, but I thought the empty riverbed looked pretty neat also.

Knoxville Reflections

I was walking along Gay Street one evening when I ran across this building.  I thought the reflections were pretty good in the building.  I tried to get a shot of the other building too, but there were not any good angles.

Three Years

Yay, it’s been three years.  Hard to believe, but we made it.  Not too many missed days, many miles and adventures later it has definitely been fun.  Sometimes it has been taxing on resources, mainly sleep, to make sure these make it out there.  I would not trade the experiences I have had for anything.  Truly capturing memories for a lifetime.

Great Smoky Mountains National Park

The next few months will really stretch my abilities to juggle.  Some of my family and I have decided to make a trek through the Great Smoky Mountains via the Appalachian trail.  Not only am I having to train for 70 plus miles in 10 days, I have to make sure everything is in working order.  Can’t miss the opportunity to enjoy the time and capture some more memories.

Laurel Falls (the top)

I think this was one of the easiest hikes that I have ever done.  The entire trail is paved from the road to the falls.  The only difficulty that a disabled person may have is at the falls themselves.  There is a small foot bridge across the middle of the falls and a small step down.  Other than that, an easy path to walk or take a wheel chair.  Although I think having a paved path in the forest takes a little away from it, it is more than made up in the fact that wonders such as this can be visited by those less mobile.

Ayers Hall on the Hill

Another shot from my adventures in Knoxville.  This was a challenging building to capture during the evening.  It is all lit up and then everything around it is dark.  Made for some fun time.

Busy Knoxville

I was working my way around Neyland Stadium one evening and made my way to the top of one of the parking garages.  The stadium was completely lit, but there was not a football game.  I never found out why, but I did get this shot of Neyland Drive along the river.

Server Update:

This weekend, I went through a server update.  I can say, it is finally finished.  I would say that it was hard work, but, since I have a shared hosting plan with a friend, he took care of it.  We now have new hamsters under the hood.  Thanks for your patients.

Wild Flowers

Today’s Photo: Wild Flowers

I was telling the story of meeting a bear on Goforth Creek to my brother.  I was describing the area and he mentioned that he thought that was where a woman and small child had been attacked a year or two ago.  Good thing that bear just walked on by.  Can’t imagine what it would have been like if it had gotten between me and the children.  Anyways, this was a flower that we found on the edge of a field about a mile back into the woods along the creek.  I have no idea what the flower is, but it was like little trumpets.

Great Smoky Mountains

Driving through Cades Cove, there is no shortage of stunning vistas.  This was one looking back into the heart of the Great Smoky Mountains.  The ridge line in the distance is where the Appalachian Trail traverses the park.

Art Under the Sunsphere

One evening in Knoxville, I went exploring and had some company.  We drove around for a little while before we found a parking garage beside Market Square and settled on starting there.  As soon as we got out of the car and began walking, I found this shot.  Initially, I was trying to get the sunset with the Sunsphere.  After a few minutes the sunset colors began to fade and I was left with this captivating scene.  I was explaining HDR and good situations to use it.  This was perfect with the bright interior of the building and the comparatively dark streets.

Freedom is not Free

I found this monument in the Tennessee Veterans Cemetery in Knoxville.  It was among several others, but drew my eye more.  I was impressed by its simplicity and yet profound message.  Thank you to all those that have served and to those that paid for this freedom.

The Sunsphere

This is another shot I took in Knoxville.  This was my second walk around town and was completely taken by surprise when I ran across the waterfalls and fountains here.  I had seen the Sunsphere on my first walk and made it my goal on the second.  I spent a decent amount of time walking through the park this night.  I just wish I had taken some shots of the Knoxville Convention Center.  It was all lit up that night and I made the assumption that it would be that was another night.  It was not.
