Clinch River Sunrise

Today’s Photo: Clinch River Sunrise

15 minutes is all the difference in great colors during sunrise and sunset.  However, if you miss that magical time, all is not lost.  I missed some amazing pinks and purples by about 15 minutes and almost did not stop for this shot.  The low angle of the sun really made the clouds stand out.  I just wish it had been about a week and a half earlier so I could have gotten the fall leaf colors.

I was walking around one of the marinas in Panama City Beach, Florida when I found this boat docked.  I thought it was neat how it was the only boat along this pier that was docked parallel to the pier.  I am glad I got this shot when I did, there was a massive afternoon thunderstorm that I just made it in before.

I love to visit Cades Cove.  It is like a step back into the frontier times for this country.  However, with such a popular place near so much populace, it can get mighty crowded.  I took advantage of one of the traffic stops to get this shot of the mountains.  It is not often you get to see a large valley like this in the Appalachin Mountains.

Sunset into Neyland Stadium

Sometimes, the sun and clouds line up just right to make an interesting composition.  I decided to go out and take sunset photos on Knoxville.  I did some research on the sunset angles and the bridges on the Tennessee River in Knoxville.  I knew I wanted to set up on the Gay Street Bridge and shoot downriver.  I set up and began shooting and was surprised when I noticed that the sun was setting directly behind Neyland Stadium.  Moral of the story, when you research sunset and sunrise angles, look beyond the immediate surroundings.  Sometimes you get more than originally planned.

A Bucket and Fire Hydrant

Today’s Photo: A Bucket and Fire Hydrant

When I am out and about, I sometimes have to make the best of the landscape and elements that I can.  I was out several weeks ago and was watching a beautiful sunset develop.  I ran around like a crazy person looking for the right spot.  I was not prepared for the beauty of this sunset, or I would have been some place better.  However, I found this spot with a bucket and a fire hydrant.  It would make a dog proud.  On the other hand, I guess it is appropriate to put the cigarette butt can next to the fire hydrant.

After getting to downtown Knoxville early and then waiting around for the sunset, no trip would be complete without some after sunset adventuring.  Just a few minutes after sunset, I was still sitting on the Gay Street Bridge.  I noticed the lights along the bridge coming on.  I made it back to Volunteer Landing and the sun had gone down quite a bit.  I set up for this shot of Gay Street Bridge with all the lights.

Sunsets have been mediocre wherever I have been for the past couple months.  I was fortunate enough to get these few clouds just at sunset.  However, the rest of the sky was perfectly clear.  I am hoping that since fall is officially here, a little afternoon / evening cloudiness is the norm.  Otherwise, I am going to have to work on the sunrise timeline.

Night at the Pier

Today’s Photo: Night at the Pier

After hanging around for several hours to catch the sunset at the M.B. Miller County Pier in Panama City Beach Florida, I wanted to get some more shots at night.  I waited just long enough to get some light from the nearby parking to light the bottom of the pier, but still get the stars in the sky.  I love the way the slow shutter speed blurs the wave

A couple months ago, I was driving around near home and ran across this sunset.  A while back, I took some shots into the sunset in this general area of another sunset.  I not sure which I like better?

Tennessee Gate

For the next few weeks, I am in East Tennessee.  I was watching the clouds the other day and thought it would be a good time to go find someplace to take sunset photos.  I took a jaunt out Tennessee 62 with the intent of making it to Frozen Head State Park.  Unfortunately, the park was closed by the time I got there.  That was because I was busy stopping every quarter mile to take photos.  This was a gate I found just as the sun was setting.
