Endless Water

Today’s Photo:  Endless Water

During my hike in the Sope Creek area of the Chattahoochee River National Recreation Area, I ran across this small brook that emptied from the bottom of Sibley Lake.  I loved how the water just seemed to flow over the rocks and how clear it was.  There are very few creeks or rivers that are clear in North Georgia.  For as much rain as we have had recently, this was completely opposite from Sope Creek, which was completely muddy.

On the north edge of Atlanta is the Chattahoochee River National Recreation Area.  It encompasses about 50 miles worth of the river and some of the surrounding area part of that area is called Sope Creek.  There are old ruins of a paper mill right along the creek with many door and window frames still intact.  I decided to have  little fun.

I was walking the trail to the base of Fall Creek Falls when I ran across this prominence.  I was drawn to it because there were a couple teenagers sitting right at the edge where the tree sticks out.  It reminded me of all the time I spent rock climbing when I was younger.  If I had taken any of my climbing gear, I would have been hard pressed to stay away from this.  As it was, I had to settle with a few photos.

Cane Creek and Rockhouse Falls

The main attraction at Fall Creek Falls state park in Tennessee is, of course, Fall Creek Falls.  However, there are several others that are pretty impressive.  Two of them are Rockhouse falls and Cane Creek falls.  These two happen to drop into the same basin just beside each other.  I wanted to visit both the top and bottom of these two falls, but ended up only having time to stop by the top overlook.  Whatever you do, take care because it is a long way down.

I have never been a fall leaf colors person.  I used to care less and wanted nothing to do with the “leaf lookers”.  I found this fall that I am turning into one of them and going camping near Fall Creek Falls made it worse.  Our trip to the falls was [Continue Reading…]

Another of the water falls from Fall Creek Falls State Park in Tennessee.  After taking the time to walk to the base of Fall Creek Falls, I did not think I would be able to make it to this water fall.  In fact, when I was looking at the map, I just planed on …Continue Reading Here…

Another shot from Fall Creek Falls.  This the top cascade before the hundreds of feet of drop.  I was walking along the trail around the rim when I caught a glimpse of it through the trees.

Today’s Photo:  Stone Steps

During my recent trip to Fall Creek Falls State Park in Tennessee, I had to make the trip to the base of the falls.  This is just a half mile trek.  Not bad, right?  That is until you start walking.  This trail is labeled strenuous for …Continue Reading Here…

Today’s Photo:  The Skeleton Tree

I found this tree along the hiking trail at the Pine Mountain Recreation Area in Cartersville.  Well, I didn’t actually find it, the girls pointed it out.  It was fun and interesting to hear their creative description of what they thought it was.  I heard everything from a …Continue Reading Here…

Today’s Photo:  Fall Creek Falls

This past weekend, I took a trip to Fall Creek Falls State Park in Tennessee.  I was hoping to catch the peak  color change season, but I think I missed it by about a week.  On the other hand, I started my descent in to the gorge to look at the base of the falls and …Continue Reading Here…
