Nature can make some pretty interesting stuff all on it’s own if you let it.  A prime example of that is Old Car City.  Nature has taken over everywhere and created some interesting stuff.  Most of it has to do with the decay of modern equipment and cars.  This is one of those examples.  Most of the time, you think of hunting when something gets “treed”.  However, time has treed this GMC truck.

National Air and Space Museum

On my visit to The District, I really wanted to get a little time inside the National Air and Space Museum.  However, most of the museums closed around 5:30 PM, so I had to make some tough decisions, and this was one of those to go.  I did get this shot as we walked by.  It is definitely one to make a point to stop at on my next visit.

History is my favorite subject.  If I thought I could have made a living at being an archeologist, I would have.  I enjoy the study of how the world is continually changing and hoping from one conflict to another as though conflict, or conflict resolution is what makes the world turn.  During the War of 1812, Francis Scott Key was caught up in the fighting between America and Britain.  While sitting on a British ship, Key watched as the English bombarded Fort McHenry.  A sight that would leave quite an impression on future generations.  It was not for a hundred years that these words became the theme song for a nation.  Now behind this golden wall lies the flag that has inspired an nation through the words of Key.

Daytime at the Observatory

It is not often that I get a chance to stop by the observatory at the Tellus museum.  It is even rarer that I get to stop by and see it open during the day.  I wanted to get inside and get a look through the telescope, but they were looking at sun spots and the sun had just gone below the horizon.  However, the final rays of light shining in the open door looked pretty neat.

Flags over Tellus

One of my favorite things about the Tellus Museum is the landscaping.  The grass is meticulously manicured.  The buses are trimmed and some are even in creative shapes.  This bush and the flags are just outside the entrance to the museum.  There was just enough wind to get them flapping in the breeze.

Weekend Trip

Finally, after not getting to focus much on photography, I set up a sunrise trip.  This will be followed by a stop at Old Car City and then home for a few hours of fun photography.

One of the must see spots in the Washington D.C. area is the Udvar-Hazy center.  It is located next to Dulles Airport and you can even get there by shuttle from the Air and Space Museum on the National Mall.  Just don’t forget to watch the time so you don’t miss the shuttle back.  If you drive, there is a fee for parking, but it is free if you get there after 4:00 PM.  However, that only leaves you an hour and a half to fly through.  One of the main attractions used to be the Space Shuttle Enterprise, a test shuttle for NASA, but since the end of the Shuttle program, the Discovery has found its home here.  This shot is from the Enterprise.  I thought it was descent, I didn’t have a wide enough lens, but you can check out Tim Stanley‘s shot of the Enterprise.

Many adventures begin with a last view of something.  Sometimes it is a wave at family when leaving for college, a last view of the shore while sailing into the blue ocean or the last feel of solid ground under your feet before …Continue Reading Here…

The Bronco

I really liked this statue which is located just outside the Booth Museum in Cartersville.  I was disappointed when I first ran across it because the sun was high in the sky.  Not the best time for photography.  Instead of the normal color photography, I decided to sport for some black and white.  With the contrast between the light color of the side of the building and the bronze statue, I thought it would turn out good.

Another Shot of the Observatory

Today’s Photo:  Another Shot of the Observatory

Last night, Friday, was a special presentation at the Tellus Museum.  The presentation was on lasers and light in general.  However, as with most of the special events, the museum stayed open late with the observatory being open a little while longer.  We watched the last music and laser show in the planetarium and took our time leaving.  This made us next to last in line to see the telescope in the observatory.  After I finished, I had just enough time to run back to the car, get the camera and take this shot.

One place we have not spent a great amount of time at in Chattanooga is the Children’s Museum.  There is not a whole lot at the museum, but the interactiveness of it makes for a fun time.  This staircase leads to the top of an observation tower which sort of overlooks downtown Chattanooga.
