Light up the Dark

Today’s Photo: Light up the Dark

I went out Friday night to watch the Perseids meteor shower.  I took photos for a couple hours and unfortunately, I did not get a single meteor.  I did see three though.  While I was trying to decide what angle to shoot from, I took this shot just for fun.  it is a 7 1/2 minute exposure at ISO 200.  It was pitch black.  For the gazebo, I walked along it with a very bright LED flashlight.  At the end, I shined it into the gazebo to make it glow.  I thought it turned out good.

Around and Around

The most prominent feature of any fair is the ferris wheel.  It is big, spins around and usually has cool lights on it.  Near the center of Pier Park at Panama City Beach, they have many amusement rides including this ferris wheel.  Not much beat moving lights for a long exposure photo.

One of my favorite restaurants in Panama City Beach Florida is Pompanos.  Other than the food, the setting is fabulous.  It sits overlooking a small pond that is covered in lily pads.  I stopped one night took a couple shots looking across the pond to Pompanos.

Standing over the Water

One thing I liked about the Garden Lights exhibit was the many pools that were around creating good reflections.  It helped that there was not much rain at the time I took these photos.  The I got the best of both worlds when it started raining.  Then I got the reflections from the walkways.

Sunflower Time

Today’s Photo: Sunflower Time

I have heard that there is a sunflower farm in the north Georgia area that is pretty vast and has some good looking plants.  I have not found it yet, but I was able to capture these bright flowers at the Garden Lights exhibit at the Atlanta Botanical Gardens.

Entrance to the Gardens

Today’s Photo: Entrance to the Gardens

Last winter is the first time I have been to the Atlanta Botanical Gardens.  We did not go for the normal flora, but instead for the Garden Lights exhibit.  As we were waiting on everyone to get ready to go into the park, I took a quick shot of the entrance landscaping.

Last December, I was taking photos in downtown Calhoun.  I did not know that I would find some giant presents just waiting for me.  Although the Christmas lights were not all that I wanted, there were a few other good opportunities for some night time photography.

The College Bell

No matter what college you visit or attend, they all have some sort of history.  If they are too new, then they have many students creating history for their future followers.  This bell sits near the middle of Rheinhardt University.  For many years, it summoned students for various events.  Many colleges and universities have symbols, statues and monuments dedicated to those who came before and those that taught.  This is just one of those.

The one thing July 4th is good for every year are fireworks.  Unfortunately, this year, widespread rain canceled almost all the shows around here.  Although it was unfortunate, for me I hope it turns out good.  Most of the shows have been rescheduled and it looks like they are going to be on different weekends.  This shot is from Pops on the River 2012.

 Light Painting

Yesterday, I wrote about light painting.  It was kinda interesting when I was reading SLR Lounge this morning and ran across a post about Darius Twin.  What an amazing artist.  I tried all day long to get by the store and get a couple LED lights for some light painting.  Instead, I was in such a hurry to get the sunset, I forgot them.  Oh well.  Just go enjoy Darius’ work for now.

Mount Cartersville

Today’s Photo: Mount Cartersville

I had seen this large mound of earth near the north side of Cartersville numerous times.  I had thought about stopping and seeing the view from the top, but never decided to.  I had seen a few photos of sunset by Stephen Cameron and thought they were pretty cool.  He is the first person that I heard call this place Mount Cartersville.  I finally decided to stop this past evening.  I thought the sunset was average, but it was a pretty nice place for a quick stop.
