Light Painting

Today’s Photo: Light Painting

Saturday night, I was called by my brother and asked if the kids wanted to play with some glow sticks.  I thought it would be a great time for some interesting photos.  Instead of light sticks, we had glow necklaces, bracelets and emergency flashlights.  I decided to have a little fun with the emergency flashlight.  One side is a glow stick, whistle and the other side is a small led flashlight.  For this shot, I turned on both the flashlight and glow stick.  I did not have much trouble remembering where I ran the glow stick for multiple passes.  I can still see the led light burned into my retina.

Stairway into Darkness

Today’s Photo: Stairway into Darkness

Most of the time when you think of a stairway into darkness, it is going down.  This one was not though.  I was strolling along the banks of the river in Rome, Georgia, when I ran across this.  the light post in the middle of the stairs was so bright, that you could not see anything beyond.  The light color was horrible, but made the contrasts stand out that much more.

So, a trip to Berry College would not be right without staying around for a jaunt in downtown Rome.  Last fall, I decided to try to make it back by Rome at night.  I thought all the old building would look beautiful.  I expected more light and was disappointed.  However, driving around, I ran across this pedestrian bridge at the intersection of the Oostanaula and Etowah rivers.  It took a few minutes to find a good spot for the reflections.

Today’s Photo: Fireworks Over Market Street

It’s almost that time again.  Time for fireworks and celebration.  Two summers ago, I photographed the Fireworks display on Lake Allatoona and then last year, I went to both Lake Arrowhead and Chattanooga.  This is another shot I took while at Pops on the River in Chattanooga.  I think this year may be a return to Pops because it was so much fun last year.

Going Up?

Today’s Photo: Going Up?

I haven’t the slightest clue what the name of this building is.  It is located near the intersection of 14th street and Peachtree Street in Midtown Atlanta.  I thought the light running straight up the building was neat.  I was able to get one of the street lights in the right position that it looks as if something is about to shoot out the top.  I saw this and thought of many Star Trek inspired names for it.

Little Tracks

Today’s Photo: Little Tracks

As most young boy’s, I was fascinated by trains when I was little.  I still am to a small degree.  Add lots of bright lights, reflections, a fast moving scale train and I am in heaven.  This shot was taken at the Atlanta Botanical Gardens Garden Lights exhibit.  It was probably one of the most difficult to take.  There were so many people working their way around the scene that I had to dodge the pedestrians to get a few shots.  Well worth the fight though.

Through the Fence

Today’s Photo: Through the Fence

Over my lifetime, I have witnessed the need to institute safety measures for many things.  One of those has been the installation of fences along most of the bridges that cross major highways in the Atlanta area.  I really don’t have an opinion one way or the other about them.  However, they are truly inconvenient when you want to take photos of traffic and there is no opening for a camera.

Peter Pan at the Grand

Downtown Cartersville hold an old theater called the Grand.  A couple weekends ago, we were walking around and noticed that they were showing Peter Pan.  I briefly thought about stopping and watching the show, but then I noticed that it was intermission and did not think that would be a good time to start watching.  Instead, I stopped for a shot of the theater goers lingering outside.

Another shot from my short walk around midtown Atlanta.  One of my favorite types of photos are the light trails from vehicle tail lights.  I hope that the city of Atlanta put a camera size hole in the fence on the south side of the 17th street bridge.  There is a great angle to get the Atlanta skyline.  Until then, this will have to suffice for that location.  I will have to share the shots of the building near the middle that looks like two sails bending toward each other sometime soon.

Black Bear Under the Bridge

Today’s Photo: Black Bear Under the Bridge

There is a small section of downtown Cartersville that is called Under the Bridge.  There are all kinds of shops and restaurants, literally under a bridge.  This is the Black Bear Lounge.  I think they were having an American Legions Riders meeting.
