Waiting for the Gate

Today’s Photo: Waiting for the Gate

I was near home the other morning, just at sunrise when I saw this cow just standing next to the fence.  It just happened to be right next to the gate between two pastures.  Most of the time, the gate is closed, but not that morning.  It was propped open.  However, it looked like the cow was confused by the lack of a closed gate.  Then I just looked at the sunrise and forgot about the cow.

Sometimes, it’s worth getting up early on Saturdays.  This morning was one of those.  I woke early and took the short drive to this place.  I shot for about an hour.  The whole trip was only about an hour and a half.  But what a relaxing way to start the day.  I started down stream from this shot and was surprised when I rounded the bend and saw the sun shining through the trees.  I couldn’t pass up the opportunity.

Just a Sunrise

Today’s Photo: Just a Sunrise

Life has gotten in the way the past several weeks and I have not gotten the time behind the camera that I like.  Now that it is getting warm and good weather, I hope to get back into the groove.  This was just a routine sunrise for around here.  Not many clouds in the sky and little color.  I was pleased though with the crispness of the photo.  Click on the photo and view it big.  You can even see the spiderwebs on the barbed wire fence.

To Shoot or Not

Today’s Photo: To Shoot or Not

I run across this problem sometimes.  I happen to be out around sunrise, or sunset and notice that it is turning out to have some great colors.  I am not always near some place that can make a great composition.  So, the problem is, do you settle for a mediocre shot and attempt to maybe photoshop out some elements that you really don’t want, or do you just sit back and enjoy the show and pass on the photos?  This is one of those and I could not find a good place for the shot.  I settled with pulling off the side of the road and could not get in a place without the power lines in time.

A Last Winter Sunrise

Today’s Photo: A Last Winter Sunrise

According to the weather people, spring is finally going to make a stay… maybe.  This was one of the final sunrises I took during the winter season.  This morning, there was tons of frost all over and created a nice light white coating.  Not nearly as good as a dusting of snow, which we did not get this year… again.  May spring and summer bring some good morning and evening shows.

Today’s Photo: Time Change

Finally, time has changed.  I am still not used to it, but now I will have many more hours of daylight for photography.  Not that everything else in life is going to get in the way.  The joy of children, a full time job, a wife and growing a rather large garden.  I would not give any of it up though.  They all make for too many photo opportunities.

Morning for a New Beginning

Today’s Photo: Morning for a New Beginning

I have been trying for a while to decide what to post for today.  The reason… It has been two years since I started this Daily Photo Blog.  In the beginning, there were a few missed days, some rough times getting the motivation to keep going and bumps with managing the site.  However, over the last two years, most of those have been hammered out.

To begin year three, I get back to one of the gates that centered some of the most beautiful shots over the last couple years.  As with the photo being the dawn of a new day, this is the dawn of a new year and hopefully some new experiences for me and this site.

Morning on the Pond

Today’s Photo:  Morning on the Pond

Back in October, I took the family on their first camping trip.  We stayed at a little campground called Mountain Glen.  It was a good place to take them for their first trip.  This was the small pond / lake at the bottom of the hill we had our tent set up on.  I am an early riser and when I go camping, that seems to get enhanced greatly.  Maybe it is that I don’t really sleep, or it could have been the extreme weather we faced.  The night before this shot, it misted and was completely cloudy.  I thought the clouds would have stayed until the morning, but the sky was clear for miles.  I set up for the sunrise by the lake and spent the morning with the resident Canadian goose.

I believe that a person is constantly evolving.  That evolution is built around a foundational core and everything is derived from that foundation.  Over time a person cycles back through those derivations and re-examines them.  The interesting thing is …Continue Reading Here…

The Last of the Color

Today’s Photo:  The Last of the Color

I love passing by this scene nearly every morning.  I have taken a few photos of this scene and find myself coming back to this wide narrow format again and again.  I ran across this again with the last vestiges of the fall colors hanging on the trees and just as the sun was cresting the hill on the other side of the lake.  I stopped for a couple seconds for this shot.  It is perfect for the 12″ x 36″ print.  If you like this, check out the Snowy Morning on the Lake.  After getting this fall shot and the winter shot, I think I will try to get a spring and summer.  I don’t know if it will work or not.  There maybe too much foliage to see.
