Painted Sunset

Today’s Photo: Painted Sunset

It was about sunset on the way home last night and I had been keeping an eye on the sky to see if it may be worth my time to track down a good sunset photo.  I decided that it was too overcast and would not make the effort.  About 30 minutes later, I was told that the sunset was turning out to be pretty good.  I stepped out of the house and was shocked at how much the sky had cleared in that short amount of time.  I ran and got the camera for a few shots.  This was the last shot as the sunset was just fading.

Sunset Silhouette

Lately, it has been gray and dreary or clear and bright, but not much between.  Imagine my surprise when I ran across these beautiful clouds just as the sun was dropping below the horizon.  This is one of my favorite photos to process.  It is a deviation from most of the HDR work that I have been doing lately.  However, you can never have too many tools in the toolbox.

Dixie Speedway

Today’s Photo:  Dixie Speedway

I was shooting in the pits at Dixie Speedway when I noticed several people take a minute to watch as the sun was setting.  There was an electric feel to the air as everyone was getting ready for some racing under the lights.  The grandstands were filling and fine tuning was happening to some engines.  Nothing like the smell of gas, loud engines and Georgia red clay to make for the start of a good Saturday night.

A Final Sunset

Today’s Photo: A Final Sunset

As the door closes on 2012, I leave you with this final sunset.

The past 366 days have been an adventure for me and I have enjoyed sharing just a small portion.  I look forward to sharing the next 356 adventures as well.

Fire on the Mountain

Today’s Photo:  Fire on the Mountain

This is one of my first sunset photos.  I was enthralled with the saturated sky, but almost no color anywhere else.  Usually, there is some color to the rest of the world, but not for this one.  The color was awesome and covered most of the sky and then it was gone.  All in the matter of a few seconds.  I used to say that it was just being in the right place at the right time, but now I know better.  It is a matter of a minor bit of meteorology, reading the clouds and making sure the angles are going to be right for the shot you want.  The rest is just waiting for the sky to be painted like you want it.

After the Storm

Today’s Photo:  After the Storm

This is one of those rare shots where I take it and process it in the same day.  Today, it rained all day and then started clearing up right before sunset.  I began noticing that there appeared to be a break happening in the clouds near the ground and decided that I need to take some photos.  By the time I made it to where I wanted to get some shots, the sun had gone a little lower than I wanted, but I got the last of the color.  The last week has had some good sunsets.  Hopefully that is a sign that we are going to be in for some good ones to come.

Where did all the Sunsets go

Today’s Photo:  Where did all the Sunsets go

Sunsets have been pretty dull around here the past few months.  Either there have been no clouds, or too many clouds.  It was fairly good today.  The storms ended and were clearing up on my way home.  To bad this was not today.  Those photos will wait for another day when I have some time to process them.

Sunset Through the Gate

Today’s Photo:  Sunset Through the Gate

I drive nearly the same path on a regular basis, so I get to see the sunrise and sunset.  About half the year, my schedule takes me through an area with several good landscape shots, during sunrise and the other half, I go through at sunset.  Right now, it is sunset time and we have been getting some descent clouds in the afternoon and evening.  This is one of the first sunset shots that I have gotten in a while.

The Final Light

Today’s Photo:  The Final Light

I have a hard time deciding which time of the day I like better, sunrise or sunset.  This photo is from just after sunset.  There is something special about the soft kiss of sunlight on the bottom of low lying clouds after the sun sinks below the horizon.  Whether it is sunrise or sunset, there are very few places from which you can watch and not be mesmerized.

An Olympic Waterfall

Today’s Photo:  Another Olympic Waterfall

Many cities walk a fine line between development and maintaining green space and parks.  Atlanta falls into that category and includes several large parks.  Centennial Olympic Park is one of those parks.  It is a gem of peacefulness amidst …Continue Reading Here…
