A Random Field

Today’s Photo: A Random Field

My family and my parents decided to ride together to a birthday party and were on the way home when we ran across this field.  I was driving, so it was my mom that pointed out the sunset.  Of course, this elicited a reaction of immediately applied brakes and a search for parking so I could get someone else to drive.  Better, I found a driveway to park in and walked back to the field for a few shots.  The clouds were just right for the sunset to stream across the tops of the mountains.

 Light Painting

Yesterday, I wrote about light painting.  It was kinda interesting when I was reading SLR Lounge this morning and ran across a post about Darius Twin.  What an amazing artist.  I tried all day long to get by the store and get a couple LED lights for some light painting.  Instead, I was in such a hurry to get the sunset, I forgot them.  Oh well.  Just go enjoy Darius’ work for now.

Mount Cartersville

Today’s Photo: Mount Cartersville

I had seen this large mound of earth near the north side of Cartersville numerous times.  I had thought about stopping and seeing the view from the top, but never decided to.  I had seen a few photos of sunset by Stephen Cameron and thought they were pretty cool.  He is the first person that I heard call this place Mount Cartersville.  I finally decided to stop this past evening.  I thought the sunset was average, but it was a pretty nice place for a quick stop.

The Old Bridge

Today’s Photo: The Old Bridge

One of my favorite things about Chattanooga are the bridges over the Tennessee River.  This is the Market Street bridge which runs right by Ross Landing.  I caught this just before sunset one evening.  The colors were not spectacular, but it made for a decent “old” photo look.

The Cold Front

Today’s Photo: The Cold Front

We had a cold front push a line of storms through today.  This was the view this evening as the front finished pushing through.  I did not think it was going to make it here until after dark, so I did not plan on going anywhere.  I was wrong, but still got a few shots.

Like a Pinwheel

Today’s Photo: Like a Pinwheel

Spin the wheel and no one knows where it will land.  That is what the weather has been like this year.  One day it is cold, the next hot.  This weekend was perfect though.  Cool in the morning and just right for the afternoon.  This was the first weekend in a long time like this, so I spent it fishing and having fun.  Sometimes it is good to put the camera down and enjoy life.

Tree and Post

Today’s Photo: Tree and Post

The weather here has been strange of late.  It is warm for several days and then extremely cold for several more.  Not just a few degree difference, but in the range of 30 – 40 degrees.  This shot was taken on one of those milder days.  Maybe this summer will bring some of the mildness with it and none of the brutal heat that we have had the last few years.

Five Minutes Later

Today’s Photo: Five Minutes Later

I am amazed by how rapid lighting situations change.  Several weeks ago, the sunset was absolutely marvelous.  However, the serenity of the photos gives witness to none of the mayhem and rushing around to capture them.  This shot is about 5 minutes after Sunset on the Lake and a few minutes before the Painted Sunset.

Sunset on the Lake

Today’s Photo: Sunset on the Lake

This shot was taken the same evening I took the Painted Sunset.  The range of colors were amazing.  It went from this blue all the way through pink and purple.  I was running around like crazy because it only took about 15 minutes to go from this to completely gone and pitch black.  I hope this is what most of the sunsets will be like this year.

Sunset Behind the Post

Today’s Photo: Sunset Behind the Post

This was the sunset around here a few weeks ago.  Unfortunately, the clouds were concentrated in just a small area.  However, they were just right to get them behind this post.

Last of the Light

Today’s Photo: Last of the Light

I was driving home the other day and the light was rapidly failing when I ran across this barn.  It sits on top of a hill and is in just the right position to have the sun behind it most of the time.  I was just fortunate enough to have some descent clouds to get a little color.
