Today’s Photo:  Time for the Liberty Bell

The famous Liberty Bell was cast in the late 1700’s and includes the inscription “Proclaim LIBERTY throughout all the land unto all the inhabitants thereof”  (wikipedia).  It was not until the late 1800’s that it became famous as the “Liberty Bell”.  In downtown Marietta is a replica of the Liberty Bell.  I grew up spending a lot of time on the square but never really paid much attention to the sculptures.  I was a kid after all.  The last time I visited, I noticed the new building with its clock tower.  I attended a Patriot’s Day ceremony today (September 11), and when I saw this photo, I thought it was perfect.

How soon we forget the pain, loss, and heartache from that fateful day.  I frequently look at my children and am glad that they do not have to grow up having felt those feelings and watching helplessly as a nation took a devastating blow.  I know that they will have to face their own trials and tribulations.  However, I can only pray that through the hard work and dedication of our defenders, both at home and abroad, they will never have to deal with something this tragic in their lifetime.

In 1776, the Declaration of Independence was written and signed with the blood of patriots.  In 2001, the sons and daughters of those who bled to create this Nation, called upon that courage and determination to stand once again for Liberty and Freedom.  I believe it is again time for the Liberty Bell to ring; for it is not the absence of conflict which brings peace but the presence of Justice.
