Wet Weather

Today’s Photo: Wet Weather

We have had so much rain this spring that it has more than made up for the lack of rain the past several years.  This waterfall does not exist.  Well, most of the time it does not.  There is a small spring at the top of this waterfall.  If you look closely at the top, you can see where it starts.  There are no streams that feed it, it just comes straight out of the hill.  Usually it is just a small trickle when we have heavy rain, but we have had so much that it is running constantly.

Waiting for the Gate

Today’s Photo: Waiting for the Gate

I was near home the other morning, just at sunrise when I saw this cow just standing next to the fence.  It just happened to be right next to the gate between two pastures.  Most of the time, the gate is closed, but not that morning.  It was propped open.  However, it looked like the cow was confused by the lack of a closed gate.  Then I just looked at the sunrise and forgot about the cow.

Today’s Photo: Where the Water Lands

This is another shot I took of one of the waterfalls in the Sope Creek area.  After all the rain, I think I may have to go back and see just how high the creek is running.  This is flowing over one of the old paper mill retention ponds.

Chrome 434

Today’s Photo: Chrome 434

I was never a chrome type guy growing up.  I still am not really impressed with chrome, but sometimes it is just done so well that even a non-chromie can find the beauty in it.  I found this engine compartment all covered in chrome a while back.  I can’t even remember what show it was at, but I have numerous shots in my library.  There were very few bad compositions.

Cartersville Train Depot

Today’s Photo: Cartersville Train Depot

I took a stroll around downtown Cartersville the other night.  For anyone that knows, it was not a long stroll.  However, it was kinda pleasant.  It was not so cold that it was unbearable, but it sure beats the heat we usually have around here.  Too bad this was the weekend that was the calm before the storm.  I mean, three days of constant rain and another one predicted.  At least it made for a few good photo opportunities.  Those photos shall be posted soon.

May Flowers

Today’s Photo: May Flowers

April showers truly do bring May flowers.  I took this on May 5.  Just a few days ago, this field did not hold a single flower.  In the span of a few days, and several inches of rain, these sprouted.  Now it is time to go search for some more.

The Perfect Storm

So, I am finally back after weathering the perfect storm.  Last week, I discovered that the site had bee infected by one of the “Pharma” hacks.  I set aside time for fixing it last week, was successful, and then spend the weekend with my wife.  Round two…

Sunday morning, I had a hard drive failure.  Not just any hard drive, the one with my last years worth of photos.  NOT good… In fact, really, really, BAD.  I have spent the last week in recovery mode.

At least it was not a hardware failure.  It was just a write error, CRC for anyone that knows.  Of the approximately 100,000 photos from the last year, I only lost about 2000.  Most of those were from two different time lapses that I had finished working on and exported.  It just kinda bites that I will not be able to go back and adjust anything in them now.

Lesson 1 – 10:  BACK-UP everything and frequently.  I now have several hard drives that I am going to be keeping synced.

Station 11

Today’s Photo:  Station 11

Last weekend, prior to the crash, I went to Midtown Atlanta for some nighttime skyline shots.  My plan was to shoot from the 17th street bridge south.  Unfortunately, that side of the bridge was closed for construction work and I could not get what I wanted.  I did get this shot from the Atlantic Station side of the bridge.  The 11 is on the side of Atlanta Fire Department Station 11.  I’m gonna wait a couple months and hope that the construction is gone and try again.
