Fog in the Valley

Today’s Photo: Fog in the Valley

I get to see the Salacoa Valley in North Georgia on a regular basis.  That means sights like this are not out of the norm.  During the spring and fall, there is usually a thick fog that flows along the creek and fills the valley.  I ran across it on this morning just before the sun came up.

Chore Time

Where I grew up, chicken farming was a large part of the economy.  When we first moved into the area, there were not so many, but not having zoning laws for the longest time allowed anyone that wanted to get in the business.  Now there are chicken houses all around.  I am just glad that I don’t have to do my chores around one of these.

The Pier in Panama

Winter is upon us and I am now thinking of vacation.  Last year at the beach was good and I’m thinking the beach may be a good destination again.  However, the decision will hinge upon what the kids want to do.  We went walking on the beach one night and made it to the county pier.  There is a stream, if you can call it that, that runs into the ocean by the pier.  It made for some interesting night time shots.

Entrance to the Booth

The Booth Museum is a unique museum.  It is the only Western museum in the Southeastern United States.  This is the main entrance as seen from the second story of the museum.  I was rather impressed with the amount of artwork that the museum housed.  According to it’s website, the museum is the second largest art museum in Georgia.  From the statues to the paintings, nearly every aspect of western life is depicted.  When you get a chance, it is well worth the visit.

Lily Pads on the Pond

Today’s Photo: Lily Pads on the Pond

This little pond is located at the end of S. Thomas Drive where it intersects Front Beach Road.  It is a rather busy area, but this little pond seems to be neglected.  I took a few minutes to walk out to the little building.  I would not recommend that, it was not very stable.  I got a few shots of Pompanos, the restaurant sitting along the edge of the pond.

One of my favorite things to do is learn.  I am always exploring new ideas and working out the kinks in stuff that I already know.  Photography happens to be my hobby and my sanity, so I am always trying to learn more.  That makes it interesting to periodically go back through my archive of photos.  Some photos I did not like at the time and now, do not see them the same.  I see the photos through new processing techniques.  That is what happened with this photo.

Along TN 62

I drove out Tennessee 62 a couple times from Oak Ridge to Wartburg.  I was timed it just right once to make it by this little lake near sunset.  I found a little drive into the field, parked and run up the road.  I was hoping no one would challenge me for stopping where I did.  I was not comfortable with where I stopped, so I made just a few quick shots.

Finally, more than one day in a row of acceptable sunsets.  Hopefully this trend will continue for several months.  This is a small stream that crosses Salacoa Road.  I cheated and never got out of the car for this one.  If I have time one day, I’m going to get into the stream for a few photos.  The closer I can get to the water, the better the reflections.

Unfortunately, this photo was taken about a month before fall officially started.  However, it felt like a fall day.  This is one of my favorite drives near home.  This is along the Salacoa valley in North Georgia.  During the summer, the sun rises just behind the farm house.  If you don’t believe in the tilt of the earth, just pay attention to the sunrise along this road.  Within a couple months, the sun goes from rising on the left side of the road to the right side of the road as seen from this vantage.  Makes for some interesting photos throughout the year.

The other night, I was catching up with several other people that I was out taking photos with.  They were all stopped right about where this photo is shot from.  I was so impressed with the shot that I had to get one also.  It was the middle of the week and the lights were on at Neyland Stadium.  We never found out why they were on, there was no one there.  However, we did happen upon a fireworks show that took place on the other side of the stadium.
