Gem Theater

When I was in high school, I took part in several theatrical plays.  I enjoyed it enough that when I went to college, I decided to major in theater.  Reality hit and that did not last long… I changed my major.  However, I still enjoy watching a good play and some of my favorite venues are the smallest ones you can find.  I ran across the Gem Theater in Calhoun.  It is about the right size for a nice intimate play setting.  Maybe I’ll have to go see something soon.

Light Along the Path

I have admired this walkway for a long time and finally got the chance to stop.  There is something peaceful to me about this small section.  Is is how well it is lit?  Maybe the mixture of warm and cold lights?  Possibly the closeness of the trees with their branches leaning over the path?  Regardless of the reason, I was drawn to this short section of walkway on the grounds of Reinhardt University in North Georgia.  The night I took this, I found that, deeper into the campus, there are many other paths that were equally as interesting.

I ran across this P.F. Chang’s in downtown Boise.  I was near the end of my walk and turned the corner to see this.  With all the red lights, I thought it looked rather cozy or like a call to arms.  I almost stopped for a bite to eat.  I’m glad I did not because I got a few more shots after this.  However, if you ever run across a P.F. Chang’s and have time to stop, the food is amazing.

Admiring the Tree

Today’s Photo: Admiring the Tree

This was one of my favorite shots from the Garden Lights exhibit.  When we first went by this, the tree was fabulous, but it was so crowded.  We finished walking around and I wanted to get a good shot of this.  The only problem was that the rain had picked up and we almost went back to the car.  I am extremely glad that I decided to go back.  The rain and the fact it was only about 20 minutes from closing made for a beautiful scene.  As we entered the Twinkling Terrace and looked down the walkway to the Orchestral Orbs, I was greeted by this sight.  The couple waited forever, it was like they were waiting for me to get the perfect photo.

A Quiet Walk

I love to walk along the beach in the morning or at night.  The crowds are usually not there, it’s quite and peaceful.  On one of our trips to Panama City Beach, my wife and I decided to take a nighttime stroll along the beach.  I thought it would be a good time for some quite photo time.  The wind was picking up and made for some interesting cloud movement.

In the Dirt at Dixie

Today’s Photo:  In the Dirt at Dixie

Shooting at a dirt race track was tons of fun and challenging.  The lighting is terrible, it is horribly loud and there is the ever present dirt.  Fortunately, I got a pit pass, but it was only for me and not the rest of the family or my van.  Nothing leaves a dirt track clean and that included my camera gear.  Most of the time, I stood on the back of a four wheeler in turn two and got some good action shots.  That was until one car hit the inside wall just beside me.  I missed most of the mud, but not the camera.

Project 52:  Week 1

Okay, it’s still not too late to join the project 52.  This weeks theme it “Frame It”.  Don’t worry, I still haven’t taken mine yet.  I do have some ideas.  I’m thinking I might be able to complete it tonight.

I am not afraid of many things and watching horror movies does not bother me.  Well, with the exception of one, The Shining with Jack Nicholson.  When I saw this truck with the tricycle sitting on it, all I could do was think of the Shining and Danny riding his tricycle through the halls.  I had to look over my shoulder a couple times to make sure no one was creeping up on me.

A Piece of the Past

I spent my youth growing up in the major metropolis of Acworth Georgia.  Most people couldn’t find it on a map if you gave them a clue and fewer could tell you what downtown looks like.  Acworth was founded as a railroad town and still has the tracks which are active.  I remember watching the trains many times.  I stopped in Cartersville to take a few shots downtown and was surprised when a train started rumbling by.  When I saw this shot, I was taken back to my childhood and watching the trains in Acworth.

I found this abandoned building near Cartersville Georgia.  I have no idea what the original purpose of the building was, but the building is very large.  Now it is open to on one side due to the complete collapse of that wall.  This is what remains of the signage from the building.

Cane Creek and Rockhouse Falls

The main attraction at Fall Creek Falls state park in Tennessee is, of course, Fall Creek Falls.  However, there are several others that are pretty impressive.  Two of them are Rockhouse falls and Cane Creek falls.  These two happen to drop into the same basin just beside each other.  I wanted to visit both the top and bottom of these two falls, but ended up only having time to stop by the top overlook.  Whatever you do, take care because it is a long way down.
