Snow White

Today’s Photo: Snow White

Flowers are some of the best subjects for photos.  I found this one in the yard.  I don’t know what kind of flower it is, but it is yellow.  With the good contrasts, I thought it would make for a good black and white.

The Old Barn

This is another of the old barns that I have found recently driving around the North Georgia mountains.  I hate to see them in such disrepair.  Most seem to be like old horses put out to pasture.  On the other hand, I have to say they make for good subjects in the photography world.

Washington D.C. houses many objects from American history.  One of my favorite places that I visited the last time I was there was the Udvar-Hazy building of the Air and Space museum.  All of the planes and flying objects are full-size and completely put together.  When you first enter the building, there is a commanding view of the SR71 Blackbird with the Space Shuttle in a hall behind it.

Sunflower Time

I have heard that there is a sunflower farm in the north Georgia area that is pretty vast and has some good looking plants.  I have not found it yet, but I was able to capture these bright flowers at the Garden Lights exhibit at the Atlanta Botanical Gardens.

Flash Flood

So, I was talking with some friends the other day about the significant amount of rain we have had in North Georgia this year.  I was told that since the first of the year until now, we have had the same amount that we normally get in an entire year.  At least the lake has not gone down like it did with the drought from the last several years.  The most common alert we have had this year has been flash floods.  This happens to be one of those waterfalls that excel at flash flooding.

Entrance to the Gardens

Today’s Photo: Entrance to the Gardens

Last winter is the first time I have been to the Atlanta Botanical Gardens.  We did not go for the normal flora, but instead for the Garden Lights exhibit.  As we were waiting on everyone to get ready to go into the park, I took a quick shot of the entrance landscaping.

Budget Motel

Today’s Photo: Budget Motel

I must confess that I used to not be a spender when it came to staying at hotels.  I have spent my share of nights in “budget motels”.  I try my best not to visit them too often now.  I thought the location of this sign was very fitting and looked right at home.

Presents

Last December, I was taking photos in downtown Calhoun.  I did not know that I would find some giant presents just waiting for me.  Although the Christmas lights were not all that I wanted, there were a few other good opportunities for some night time photography.

I enjoy history.  That includes visiting historical monuments, museums and sites.  I believe there is so much to be learned from the past and taking that time also grows a sense of belonging in a person.  When I was in school, the teachers / professors would give numbers for the casualties in different wars.  It is not often that point can be driven home more than visiting one of the national cemeteries.  This shot is in the Marietta National Cemetery.

Over the last few years, I have started to like going to craft fairs and festivals.  I like seeing all the different things that people make, but mostly I like getting to watch the few crafters that actually make their products on-site.  Last fall I went to the Marble Festival in Jasper Georgia.  There were tons of people selling, but only a couple actually crafting at the festival.  This is Bill Cook, a marble sculptor working on a marble statue.  The part that he was working on here was to be the chain mail on a knight.
